O/T Have we all voted then?

brideseekingblush, 6 May, 2010 at 11:55 Posted on Planning 0 18

If not the booths don't close till 10pm - and so long as you're registered you don't need your poll card. Get out, do it!

    I'll be going this evening

Can never understand why people can't be bothered. The right to a free vote is a privilege and if people don't feel they know enough to make a decision then they should find out!!

Sorry - rant not aimed at anyone it just drives me mad when people say they can't be bothered or dont know etc!! ?

I'll be stopping off after work to mark my cross ?

Have found this year really tough though. Only made up my mind yesterday, I haven't been enamoured with any party this year really. Seems to be more of a "lesser evil" choice for me this year rather than an outright preference ?

Exactly my thoughts. It drives me mad when my FMIL rants about this country etc when she doesn't even vote! I've voted for as long as i've been old enough. I did mine via postal vote earlier in the week. My brother works for local government so he's counting the votes tonight and getting paid £50 an hour for it! AND he gets tomorrow off. Even if i didn't get paid for it, i'd love to do that job!

We'll be having a walk up to our local school after tea when my hubby comes home from work. Can I ask a dumb blonde question? We've got two lots of voting cards one green and one white because it's a local by-election too. Now, forgive my thickness, but I thought we were voting for our local MP in the general elections too? Normally, I would vote for a completely different party in the local elections (local issues etc) but not in the general elections because the party I vote for in the local elections wouldn't stand a cat in hells chance of getting into No 10 !! So I'm puzzled ? help!

I will be voting tonight - always have done.

Made a lot easier by having my polling station in the pub at the end of my road! ?

RF - when you go to the polling station they'll give you two papers. One will have the names of the candidates standing for the local elections on, and you can choose up to 3 candidates from this list.

The other one will be for the general election. You're voting for your local MP on this one. Then if someone has an overall majority of local MPs by tomorrow morning they will form the government.

So in answer to your question, if you live in an area where for example the Greens get a lot of Councillors but never anywhere near an MP, you might want to vote green for the councils and one of the other parties for the General.

haha, np - my work's connected with all this sort of stuff so I have to have a bit of knowledge. But I couldn't stand for parliament - all those constituents would get in the way of my hitching time!

only got the general election one at our polling station, i have voted every time since ive been able but never has there been a time when it has really mattered so much to me and my family that i make the right vote i found it really difficult this time round and felt quite 'rebellious' as ive totaly changed my vote, i just hope i did the right thing!

Day off today so me and OH went this afternoon. We have both local and MP elections here, and I voted differently in both, because the local lot are really good here at community stuff, but not sure I'd trust them with the country!!
