Lynseys Designs, 11 June, 2009 at 20:54 Posted on Planning 0 6

I have heaps of video clips from our honeymoon and want to upload them to You Tube but have no idea how. Anyone done it before and can point me in the right direction?

Thanks x

Is the footage on a video camera or phone? If so you need to get it out into your computer first - plug the device into your PC and follow any instructions you received with the camera/phone to drag the footage across.

Ideally the footage should be in .MP4 or .FLV [flash] format before uploading to YouTube. Depending on what format the footage files are when you transfer them onto your computer, you may need a video converter.

Once you have .MP4 or .FLV files, just follow the instructions on YouTube for uploading - the process is quite simple.

First thing to address is what device the footage is on, and what format [.file extension will tell you] it is.

And you can't upload massive files (ie lengthy ones), so only go for the ones that are 2/3mins max.

    Hi,

    I've uploaded a couple.

Once you've registered and got your account up and running, you just follow the instructions step by step. It accepts most video formats, but from what I can remember, you're limited to 10 minutes per video so you may need to edit your video into parts if it's longer than this.

    Hope that helps

    AJ

    Hi,

The videos were taken via my camera so they are on a memory card which I've put into my laptop. I think it is a .AVI file. I've been playing around with you tube and it says the file is 76mb and it will take another 16 mins so I might just need to give up for the night. Jet lag and technical things isn't going to be good!

    Thanks

The clips aren't longer than a min or so but still taking ages. I'll read the instructions on you tube tomorrow.

You can upload .AVI files, but this is a much bigger format than the video files need to be for YouTube, and you may quickly overshoot the file size/film length limit [or not, if there is nothing longer than a minute].

If you want to convert to the much smaller and quicker .MP4 format before uploading, download Super converter here:-

http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html [scroll down to 'download Super setup file' at bottom of page]

Once you have installed it, start Super and drag your .AVI file into the conversions box at the bottom. Select the 'Output Container' to .MP4, and press 'encode'. The program will take a few minutes to convert your .AVIs into much smaller .MP4s - upload these .MP4s to YouTube in much quicker time.

Thanks very much I'll go and try that now. The video did eventually work I think but it took ages and ages and still i'm not sure it plays all the way through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZTIQYYJnCU you need to wait until 30 secs into the video to see turtles being released back to the sea. I'll work out how to edit the first part out another day!
