OT introductions

daisymoo86, 8 September, 2015 at 12:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 45

Hi All

I've just posted a thread over on WP to try and get more brides (and grooms) to wander over here.

In the hope that it may be successful I thought I would start an OT getting to know you thread. So feel free to introduce yourselves and lets get this forum going again Smiley smile

A bit about me: I live in Derby, late 20's, getting married next year. I live with my OH, our 2 cat fur babies and my big fat rabbit (who OH hates!). I do a job I mostly like except for the really stressful times (Arrrgghhh!) in the legal sector. I lead what I see to be quite a boring life but I am happy with my lot Smiley smile I try and go to the gym, fail more often than I actually achieve it. And am currently in the limbo land of having everything booked for the wedding but still miles out from it.

Hi daisymoo86. Brill idea - hopefully this will tempt some of the posters from WP over here!

I'm in Bournemouth, late 20's and getting married next year as well! Live with OH - we bought our first house in January - but have lived together since our first year at uni. He wanted to wait until we were settled proper before proposing. Met almost exactly 9 years ago, got together 8 1/2 years ago and will have been a couple nearly 9 1/2 years by the time we're married.

Apart from my moaning in the recent Good/Bad thread, most of the time I'm an overly optimistic and happy soul (think of a blonde, simple labrador who gets distracted by shiny things) and love spending time with friends and family. I enjoy gym time and reading. Hate cooking, but OH and I have an agreement - I cook 90% of the time, he irons. I literally haven't picked up an iron (other than to put it away) for 8 years.

Spending most of my time waiting for April when we get married, then getting annoyed that I'm wishing my life away.

    Hi Otters,

im Jayne. (Very creative user name yes I know), I'm 58 been with partner 10 years thinking about organising a wedding. Finally getting married in January while on holiday in Lapland. Just two witnesses. Live 2/3 of the year in Essex and 1/3 in Spain. More when I can manage it! Don't work now. Don't do gyms. Can't have catty pusses really due to the constant back and forth to Spain but when I'm out there I do tend to borrow neighbours cats. Mainly due to putting food out for the strays. And I have fostered one boy cat post op while he was waiting for a new permanent home. Yes you guessed it I like cats.

Mostly sorted for wedding. Really enjoyed the planning. Mainly as I have no guests, bridesmaids and no reception. They are obviously the stress areas.

I will be hanging about afterwards like the ghost of wedding past as I love hitched!

Whereabouts in Essex are you, Jayne? My OH is from a place just on outskirts of Chelmsford.

I also can't imagine my life without Hitched so will probably linger like a bad smell after the dirty deed is done...

Originally from Yorkshire but my partner is in Essex and I moved down here about ten years ago. We live in Dunmow now so near to Stansted airport for my trips to Spain. Not far from Chelmsford. I'm very well acquainted with Chelmsford hospital after breast cancer last year! I'm off to Chelmsford on Thursday but shopping, no hospital till January after I get MARRIED. Yeah!!!

    Brilliant idea! :-)

I grew up near Manchester and didn't have the best of childhoods. I lost my mother to suicide when I was 4 and my nanna who became my mother figure died when I was 11 very quickly from cancer. Something that was always constant was our camping holidays in Cornwall, and it was always where we were happiest. The second the opportunity arose, when I was 18, I moved as close as I could to Cornwall for university. My dad was devastated and cried because he thought I would fall in love and never come home.

I met my OH in my second year of university (more of this story on my wedding report in the near future)... I fell in love and never went back up north. Almost 6 years later and we're less than four weeks away from our wedding. He's my best friend and his family have taken me in like one of their own. I still see my dad and speak to him all the time, but I wish I could bring him here too so that I could make his life happier.

So I'd never say my life was boring. I'm living the dream. We got on the housing ladder in our early 20s and share our home with our two beautiful kitties. I have beaches galore to spend long summer and winter days on and miles of countryside to explore. My job isn't the best, and doesn't use my degree, but the staff here are absolutely wonderful!

People here are always saying how optimistic I am and comment that I'm always smiling. Well it's hard not to when I look at how far I've come. Smile and the world will smile with you! :-)

    Hi everyone Smiley smile

I'm Kay, also late 20's, getting married 31 July 2016 (our anniversary!). Will have been together for 9 years on the wedding day. I currently live in Berkshire, but originally come from Buckinghamshire. I have two adorable kitties, both 3 years old. One is a long haired tabby boy, he seems to live constantly in the vets, he's going in tomorrow due to a bite wound (ugh!). His sister is a short-hair tabby girl, she's adorable and everyone thinks she's still a kitten as she's hyper and meowy.

I work as a web designer in London. I'm getting married in Berkshire though as I love the countryside a lot more! I've planned all the big things and am working on getting all the little bits sorted as we're crafting a lot of stuff!

This forum has been amazing for inspiration and learning that other brides worry about a lot of the same things, which is reassuring Smiley laugh

Jayne E - yes, I've heard of Dunmow and probably driven through it a few times. Yay for no hospital until next year Smiley laugh

Lapland 2015 - good luck for Saturday! I assume you and Jayne have swapped quite a few ideas and stories about your weddings?! Will you be over there at the same time?

CornishBride89 - you're certainly right about smiling. Your story is certainly sobering, but has the perfect ending! I'm down the coast from you in Bournemouth and I really do feel that we have the best of everything - a short drive to award winning beaches or a short drive to the New Forest. Perfect for our jaunts out and about!

Best of luck for the next 4 weeks Smiley smile

I have numerous spiders in the house... do they count as pets?!

As soon as it rains, we also get an influx of woodlice around our front door. Much less pleased about them ?

Spiders! Errr can't do spiders. After my surgery my OH slept in the spare room. I went to bed after him one day and there was a spider near the ceiling over the window. No way could I go to sleep with a spider in the room. I climbed on the bed, whacked the spider with a book, overbalanced, flew through the air narrowly missing my head on the bedside cabinet and landed flat on my back. oH came running in when he heard me scream. So much pain lol. Needless to say I'm now banned from climbing on the bed or dealing with spiders. Lol.

Oh my word, that sounds extreme!

I tend to be the one who gets rid of spiders in our house. OH is okayish until they get medium-sized, but I don't usually get fazed so deal with it.

My kryptonite is ants. Can't do it. Even coming out in a cold sweat thinking about them right now. We once hired a villa in Portugal with OH's family, but arrived late in the evening. Ants had come in and were all over the shop - in every bedroom, in the 3 bathrooms, the kitchen, the lounge. I had a panic attack while they all dealt with it and I was \ \ this close to driving back to the airport and coming home straight away.

I stayed, but barely slept for a week Smiley amazing

Pooba- I fly home the day Jayne lands so we just cross each other. Our weddings are exactly a week apart. How spooky? It's been good having someone to share info with and we have thrown lots of ideas around which has made it that much more exciting.

are you all set for your big day? I'm the opposite to you in that I love cooking but I have the same u written agreement with my oh haha. Glad to see I'm not the only one who hasn't picked up an iron in years ?

City girl sorry to hear your calling your wedding off. If you want the simplicity I'm a huge supporter of abroad although that's because I am bias and have a wedding planner organising it for me (highly recommend one!)

    Hi

im near Liverpool, im 37 next month (and feeling really old) have been with my partner for just over 18 months - true love at first sight, getting married June 2017 as money needed for others things first,

I have 1 daughter, he has 2 daughters and 1 son!! We are a very modern day family lol

one gorgeous pet hamster who spends more time with me and my OH than with the kids!!

I have a fabulous job that I love and couldn't see me doing anything else, my OH is a offshore man so only home 2 weeks every month, hard but manageable and keeps the spark alive

I never go the gym but I do go boxing twice a week and if I cant loose 3 stone before 2017 my dream dress will be replaced a bin bag!!!

I don't actually mind ironing - I'm just shocking at it and OH couldn't bear to see me out in my creases ha ha!

Lou37 - ha ha, I'm sure you won't have to resort to wearing a bin bag. There's a weight loss forum here and as I've put there, I'm doing what I'm doing until Christmas and then bringing out the heavy guns for four months until our wedding. I love boxing classes, though - nothing better than punching the life out of the pads and imagining they're someone else!

CityGirl29 - sorry to hear you've called off the wedding, although a sensible idea if it's getting too much. As Lapland2015 suggested, could you go abroad and have someone else organise it all?!

I'd definitely have more cats if my OH let me! :-D

My OH and I have been together for 2 and a half years and decided this year to get married. We haven't done a big romantic proposal (which I'm a wee bit sad about) but we have started looking at venue's and hopefully in the next couple of months we will be able to go and pick my engagement ring (he's awfully sensible with money so wanted to wait until my wee lady started school so our outgoings would decrease - thank goodness one of us is good at that stuff!) We haven't done everything the "traditional" way but it suits us!

We are in Scotland and live with my daughter who just started school! I've not been at my current job very long but I love it! The people here are lovely and much nicer than most of the folks I've worked with previously!

I chat a little on Wedding Planning but I lack the motivation to get our plans started so I read more than I post haha!

I'm 30 and have just got married (been together 5 years), we've been in our first house for a year which we love, before that I was living with parents and the last few years were tough but now everything has settled down and we're really happy. Oh has just started a new job / apprenticeship which is big opportunity for him and we're both really excited about it.

Other than that the wedding has taking up so much of my time that I haven't really been involved in any hobbies for the last couple of years so now I will have to find something to fill my time! I'm bridesmaid next year for my best friend so at least I still get to be involved in wedding planning a little bit.

Not a cat person here because I'm very allergic (otherwise I'd love a kitty!). We are crazy bunny people though, our rabbit has his own room and the top floor of our house most of the time. We're looking at getting another one soon ?

    What a great idea!

I'm 30, from Surrey. Getting married in exactly 17 days....eeek!! It's coming so fast, been planning for a year and a half. The time really flies. We got engaged on our 3rd anniversary, and bought our house together 2.5 years ago. We would love to have a pet, but we're not home enough for a dog and my OH isn't a huge fan of cats...as a result, I lavish attention on my friend's gorgeous cats!

I love the gym, I'm a regular class goer and attend at least 3 classes a week. Nothing like a bit of interval training to get your heart pumping! Smiley smile A few months ago, I had a slight panic that my dress wasn't as comfortable a fit as it was when I was first measured (result of Xmas and a big bday!) so I started the juice plus diet, and it has worked a dream. My dress now fits like a glove, the seamstress actually had to take it in a fair bit (secretly quite pleased about that, haha!) I'm glad I started it, for me it's not a fad diet, it's actually given me some really good eating habits that I fully intend to keep up. Not quite sure what I'll do with myself after the wedding, the planning takes up so much time it's weird to think I won't be doing it for much longer...

    Hi All

I'm from Buckinghamshire, in my late 30's and have been with my other half for 7 years this coming January , we'll be getting married around our anniversary in 2019. I live with my OH who's a chef (very lucky girl, not good for my waistline though) and our 3 cats - yep another cat lady Smiley smile we have Budweiser who is 4, his name came about because my OH found him in our local pub garden in a drain when he was only around 4 weeks old, he was taken to the vets in a Budweiser box Smiley smile I had told my OH that I wanted a Whiskers cat and so he called me and told me to go to the vets and take claim of him Smiley smile we also have 2 Bengals my gorgeous boy Lenny who's in my photo and is 3 and Nelly who is 2.

I have just taken up swimming again as I need to lose about 6 stone from all the lovely meals that my OH cooks for me, plus I like my Lager and wine not a good combination when trying to lose weight, I also have 3 jobs so it’s catching the time to eat the good stuff Smiley smile

I’m loving being part of the Hitched family and look forward to hearing more about you all and your weddings x

I'm glad you're on the mend Jayne, my mum is going through that at the moment. She has had 6 lots of chemo, just had her Op, I went to stay with her to help her get back on her feet and help my dad out. Finally she's got 3 weeks of Radiotherapy 5 times a week. I had so much respect for my mum before, but now I'm in total awe of her and the way she has coped.

I hope that you don't have to make too many more visits to the hospital and really pleased that it hasn't got in the way of your plans x

Thank you mrsstanleytobe. It's nice to be off three monthly checks and on six now but at the same time a bit scary not to be checked for six months lol ! Positive thoughts all the time. I've been determined that on 3 January I WILL be on that plane and marrying on the 6th.

its not nice to say the least but when it happens you just have to get on with it and get through it. Worrying won't change the outcome so live for today. Good wishes for your mum. Xxx
