OT ladies - I need your thoughts!

MrsCoco, 16 April, 2011 at 15:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 17

Hey girls

My SILs wedding is coming up and I didn't want to buy a standard good luck charm from a shop, I wanted something a little more personal - so I made one myself, in the colours she has chosen for her big day (purple and red).I know a few bits need tidying up (ie the ribbon handle) but I'm quite pleased with it!

Please can you give me your thoughts on this (pics below) and whether you think it might be something doing as a hobby at all? (I'm not expecting to make a fortune for it, more for enjoyment/relaxation purposes than anything else)

Any thoughts much appreciated ?

xxx

    That is lovely!!

So original and I'm sure she'll love it . It's something that could be hung from a door handle etc. after the wedding as it isn't immediately weddingy but will be a lovely reminder!

If you are planning to make/sell these as a hobby you could do a test, if you were going to sell on ebay etc. put photos of this one up and say bespoke etc. in any colour. State how long it would take you to make, so you don't have ones made that are un-sold. Then you would be able to gauge interest.

Also I think one made in traditional wedding colours would be fab too, and may be something you could make a few of at a time which I'm sure would sell well. Could look amazing with white and silver sparkly buttons!

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to reply!

ATB - I was thinking I might experiment with a few more traditional colours first, as I appreciate SIL's one wouldn't be as sought after! I might dip my toes into the world of Ebay to see what the demand is like and go from there - as I say, I don't expect to make money as such from them, it's just something I really enjoy doing!

Can see a button spending spree coming on now ? xx

I think that is very usual, and very 'now'!!

You could also do other shapes so its not just lucky brides who can have them!

Ebay or Facebook are good options for ways to sell, as well as the Etsy type websites...

Thanks for all your feedback ladies!

I've decided to give it a go and have set myself up a Folksy page, and am going to be experimenting with new button related things (including photoframes and plant pots!) in the next couple of weeks.

Here are some pics of my latest horseshoe....a bit more "toned down" than my previous one!

They are lovely Mrs Coco - I think it's really thoughtful of you to do one for your SIL.

Have you looked in to Etsy or Folksy? They would go like hot cakes on there I'm sure.

Ooo they are lovely, you are clever and should def see if they sell, its def the sort of think i would buy as a gift especially if you could request the colours you want, I think personal hand made stuff is always more thoughtful as a pressie

Thanks girls! You're all making me ?

I've set up a Folksy page to see how they go, and am coming up with some new bits and pieces too - currently looking at button holes, photo frames, trinket boxes and 18th/21st key designs! I'm loving being able to use my creative side again now our wedding has been and gone! x

Looks good! Worst they can do is delete it I guess!!!

I need a name though, I am not very good at thinking up names for things...

I'd like it to be generic enough to allow me to diversify from toppers at a later date if I so wish... but a funky name too!!

    Quirkier the better!
