O/T made a massive decision....Teehee you around, teacher related

Mel B, 22 January, 2010 at 20:13 Posted on Planning 0 13

Well , I don't know if you remember me talking about the arse of a head I have and how he is piling on the pressure, stress and paperwork at school. It culminated in me waking up during wednesday night having an asthma attack. I managed to control it after 2 hours with inhalers and doze off wheezing until 5am when I got up and OH told me I wasn't to go into school and so I called in, started stressing, started having a panic attack bringing on an asthma attack and so OH phoned an ambulance. Got rushed to hospital, theyy explained I had just had a panic attack, patched me up and sent me home a few hours . I have decided to hand my notice in at the end of feb with a view to leaving at Easter, big decision going on supply until I have a permanent job and with a wedding to pay for...but OH is supportive and well, I am papping myself.

Just needed to share

    Hey Mel

Sorry to hear you have had such a rough time recently. I am also a teacher and can see how you must be feeling. I think you have made the right decision - your health and sanity must come first. Just think its awful that some heads get a way with treating staff like this - hope your ok and good luck with supplySmiley smile

Sorry to hear that you'r job is so stressful, there's far too much unnecessary paperwork to do as a teacher. I hope you feel a sense of relief now that you have made this decision. Before you leave see if there's any ideas/worksheets etc that you can take with you to your supply. Give yourself plenty of time to sign up to the agencies as those CRB checks seem to take for forever to come through & you probably don't too leave too much of a gap. Have you thought about looking for a maternity cover at another school or there may even be a 1 term temp contract around.

Good luck 7 look after yourself x

Teehee I might have posted about it when you were married and said you were off the internet for awhile. Anyway....yeah, he is a bullying arsehole and I have had enough. He has got me to the point where I have lost all faith in my teaching abilities, he has knocked all stuffing out of me and I ended up at 7.45am tuesday morning me crying in the middle of my classroom carpet crying and shaking. Totally lost the plot and I am not carrying on only to end up suicidal. Sounds dramatic but it's true.

Didn't realise just how many teachers were on here....deepest thanks to you all for you responses, will keep you all posted on my career developments!

Im not a teacher but I left a job I'd been in for 10 years due to a bullying boss. It was the best decision I've ever made and the relief when I walked out of work for the last time was unbelievable. People thought I was mad but I knew it was right for me and I hope it works out for you as well as it has for me.

Just remembered that a friend of mine taught in a lovely school for 3 years then moved back home (broke up with bf) and started at another school. She felt so much pressure and no help from staff whatsoever & left that post after 1 term, spent 1 month in Australia with me travelling & re-trained as an physio. She loves her job now (although misses the holidays!) and says how much better it is not to take paperwork home with her. I'm sure you'll be relieved by the lack of paperwork a supply has to fill in ~ except the all important time sheet!

I have been through the exact same thing. I had my nqt year and my mentor went on maternity after the first term, from which my head took over and did nothing. On top of that I was supporting another class by doping all planning, assessment etc for a crap supply. The following year he turned on me and in my opinion bullied me out. I had absolutely no confidence in my ability, when I had left training with a first just 2 years prior. I was very close to leaving teaching for good but got offered a part time position. I know work 3 days in a school and supply other 2 days. My confidence is growing and my love for the job has returned and the w****r has been off sick for the whole of this school year bar one day! When I left the school 5 members of staff left-teachers and tas which just shows what a horrid place it was.

Anyway, I learnt that it is only a job and my mental health is more important. Nowadays I do my job and leave any crap at school and I am so much happier!

I think you have done the right thing and remember everything happens for a reason.

With supply just remember to put some money away for the holidays and you will be fine

    Good luck xx

Oh Laura that's pants what you've been through. I am realising that my mental health is the most important thing and it really fragile at the moment so needs must- I need to give myself a break.

Mrs Stb...sorry! I don't mean to scare you! Tbh my school is kind of an exception...it has a wide negative reputation and the head is extremely well known as a bully. I still love teaching, just not the school I am in and so I am doing something about it to get my teaching mojo back. I am sure you will a-okay at your interview next week- sending googd luck vibes for you to store up until then!

Blackkat- I have done supply before and the lack of paperwork is fab! Pressure is totally off!

Thanks borokate, I am glad you made the right decision...I am sure it's the right decision for me too...scary though.

And Teehee...yes I start work every morning at 6.50am and leave between 5 and 6pm every night. I then do some work at home till about 8pm. I can't go on like that.....it's madness and I'm suffering now!

Hey... I had a similar thing last year. Not nearly so bad but my confidence was in bits.

I left in september and moved into special needs teaching which I love! And they all think the sun shines out of my backside so I've gone from being the dregs who SMT hated to the golden girl. Which is quite nice it must be said...

You will find a new school, a temporary contract is a good way to go as it means if it's not the place for you, you know you can get out. When you find the right place for you then you'll start enjoying it again. Promise x

Also, if you leave at Easter you only have 8 weeks and 4 days left. Whoop Whoop!!!!!

    Hey bridgetv

Wow- I hadn't thought of it being on 8 weeks and 4 days! You're right about the temporary contract. I have a mate who lives opposite me and he owns his own teaching supply agency, when I did supply before I got this job, he had me in work everyday of the week. I spoke to him yesterday and he said that again, he'd have no problem in placing me but also he will keep me posted on perm/temp contracts. The great thing is; is that I have to fill in only 1 application form and send it to him and he applies for me to schools and the cover letter thing is made simplified by him asking me 3 questions, I answer them and he compiles it for me. He is making it as stress free as possible for me which is great AND he gave me big hug when I cried whilst telling him about my school (he is a good friend btw I don't usually get hugs from blokes apart from OH!).

So glad things turned out good for you. It is amazing how taking the plunge can completely change your outlook and happiness in life. I really want to enjoy my job again......I'm sure I soon will. x
