O/T Manchester hitchers..your fave restaurant?

Mrs_imp, 17 November, 2011 at 13:48 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hi ladies, I am after your help!

My mum and 2 of her friends are coming to Manchester in December for a few days to do some Christmas shopping. I am meeting them for dinner and am looking for some recommendations of where to take them.

We are going to Cloud 23 at about 6.30 for cocktails and would like to go somewhere central for a nice meal after, help!

The type of places we like are, grill on the alley, restaurant bar & grill, tampopo and alberts shed, but we fancy something different. Anyone got any ideas?

If you like Thai get yourself to Chapoyra ( I think thats how it is spelt) I love it there but I could book as soon as poss as they fill up quick!

If you want to indulge in meat I can recommend Bem Brazil. 2 hours of men coming round with about 20 types of meat, sirlion, fillet, gammon, lamb etc.... and its all you can eat - and it isnt far from Mojos for some great cocktails Smiley smile

I've just googled Chaophraya, it looks lovely, I'm not sure how I've not heard of it before! I'll certainly put that on my short list, thanks for the tip of booking soon too!

Bem brasil is out, one of the ladies is a veggie.

If you go after 7 you have to book a guest list place, which you wont be able to do now as they get booked up months in advance! We were told to head down about 6 and we should be ok.

The Rice Bowl on Cross Street does great Chinese food! Or how about Piccolino's?

Michael Caines at Abode. Although not my favourite, but that's out of town (Green's in Didsbury).

We went to Picolino last time she was here, so fancy a change. I love it though, it's a lovely restaurant.

Panacea didn't impress me the last time I went there, not sure if we just went on a bad night but the waiter was useless and the food wasn't much better!

Greens is local to where I live, but not handy for my mum and her crew who are stying in town. I will google Michael Caines now, thanks!

This is a useful thread! Going for dinner with OH tonight in Manchester but not picked a restaurant yet! Grill on the Alley is a good shout.

My favourite recommendation is Ning in the Northern Quarter. It's gorgeous Malysian food

If Thai is what you like then head to the Siam Orchid on Portland Street (not to be confused with the Royal Orchid or the karaoke place above it.) Very small but very authentic.

The other place I love love love is Croma, they do fancy gourmet pizzas but all under a tenner, think that's kinda off John Dalton.

Outside of city centre there's Vermillion, asian fusion, pricey on the a la carte but does a special set menu for under 15quid for 3 course and their food is out of this world. You can also hire private booths upstairs for cocktails, and you may spot some footballers as its near the City of Manchester Stadium so a lot of the city players go there for fancy nights out.

Don Giovannis is lovely - it's an italian with similar prices to all the chainy italians but with nicer food and service that makes you feel like you somewhere more expensive

Not sure where Jury's inn is exactly, but croma is close to the town hall, looks like a 10 minute walk past the Bridgewater Hall according to google maps Smiley smile It is amazing and my fave starter there is the dough balls and mozarella sharing plate, always spot on! I always get the anatra, which is duck with hoisin, but they have every flavour under the sun.

Opp cloud 23 is Dimitris (greek tapas) food is gorgoeus.... further down Deansgate you've got Evuna (spanish tapas).... back in the centre still on deasngate there is Las Igunas (latin amermican) very reasonably priced, great food and fab atmosphere and great cocktails ! or San Carol (italian) which is down the side of kendals. Its very popular so book early.... if you're round there then try and pop into Panacea for a cocktail - expensivish but nice as a treat ! enjoy xxx

My two favourite restaurants are grill on the alley and alberts shed, both are fantastic. Alberts shed isn't too far from jurys inn either
