OT missing cat

CBear, 6 May, 2009 at 19:31 Posted on Planning 0 30

One of my cats is missing Smiley sad His name's marvin, he was in last night about an hour before I went to work at 8.15, and he ent out. OH says he didn't come in last night, he wasn't in when I got home this morning, and I've not seen him all day. Really not like him, he's never away for more than a few hours. I've walked around the nearby streets calling him, usually he'd come when he hears me. I've driven around a bit further afield looking for him, but nothing. DOn't know what to do, worst of it i I have to go to work in 45 mins but I'm not going to be able to concentrate all night, realy worried about him Smiley sad

Oh CB theres nothing worse.......... is he chipped?? are there garages around you? Perhaps he's snuck in to one and got locked in?

Soon as you can get a picture of him stuck to a few places around the area.... I hope with all my might that he comes home to you soon. xx

All the houses are terraced so no garages, but there are sheds in the back yards, am a bit worried he might be trapped somewhere. OH won't be home til after I'm gone, she said she'll make up some leaflets to put through letterboxes if he's not home this evening. His brother looks exactly like him, he just walked into the living room and I thought Marvin was hme, but it was just Otis wondering where his tea is Smiley sad

Hey CB .... I know its easy to say and you will worry but cats do sometimes just wander off ... it could be the longest 48hrs of your life but one of mine went missing a couple of years ago, and I was sure something awful had happened as he was such a home bird (or cat....). We searched in all his haunts, put posters up, asked around the neighbourhood but nothing and then he turned up 4 days later, a little thinner and a bit dirty but absolutely fine and all he wanted was some dinner...

I really hope your chappie turns up safe and sound, please keep us updated... if he isn't back when you get back from work, try some local vets or animal rescue places if you have any locally ... its worth trying any avenue. He may have just got scared by something and is hiding away until he's happy to come out, even if he's hearing your voice.

Thanks. Am really hoping he turns up over night. He's chipped, so if he's at a vets or shelter we should hear about it. Off to work in a few minutes, never felt less like going but don't have a choice unfortunately. Will keep you all updated

Just wanted to update you, Marvin's still not home. We've put posters up and put leaflets through neighbours doors. We've had two crank calls which was awful. A few nice people have run saying they've spotted him nearby hours earlier, but to be honest I think they're talking about Otis our other cat, they're almost identical. We've rung local vets, shelters, the big animal hospital, the street cleansing department at the council and the microchipping place, but no luck. I've put ads on websites too.

Am going out of my mind with worry, it's horrible. I just wish I knew where he was. I keep think of him trapped somewhere or hurt, and worry that he's scared or in pain. Just want him home Smiley sad

I did think about that, but a to pick up a trail outdoors the dog needs to be there within 20-30 mins or so. They can sniff people out, but an actual trail goes cold fairly quickly. Plus they've dessimated the dogs section in our force (cost saving) so they're all dead busy and we usually have one dog patrol for 3 divisions, so they tend to be quite busy.

My best friend is also in the job, she works the area that I live so I've got her looing for me. And I was in the CCTV control room the other day, I got the operator covering my area to look out for him, but thee's only really cameras on the main high street and we're quite a way from there.

Just been out calling him again....don't know what to do Smiley sad

Awww that's awful CBear, any sign of him yet?

Could be be stuck in one of your neighbours gardens behind an oil tank or something?, Could he be a daddy somewhere and be staying at his "luvvers" place, being fed by her owners?,

He will come back, they always do ?

No mini Marvin's I'm afraid, he had the snip when he was a baby. He's going to be three next month, so still quite a young cat, but never one to wander. I've dropped leaflets through everyone's letterbox, am trying to speak to as many as I can too to ask them in person to look in sheds and things. We've had him since he and his brother were kittens, ther mum was a stray taken in by a friend of OH's family, she had 4 kittens a week after they took her in. We've always let him go outside since he was neutered, but he's never gone for more than a few hours before, and he always comes in at night and sleeps in our bedroom Smiley sad

    Come home Marvin!

So sorry he's not home yet. To give you a little bit of hope, my cat, Harvey has twice gone missing for 3-4 days then turned up right as rain as if nothing had happened. Last time, Iain and I had gone out to take our minds off things. When we came back, I went out to the back garden - and Harvey wandered round a corner with a cheerful miaow as if he'd never been away. I burst into tears and gave him the biggest cuddle. Then turned round to see Iain all choked up too!

So please don't give up hope!

    I'm sending you positive vibes.

    Ali xxxxx

I don't understand why some people are so cruel with the nasty phone calls. I put over over 500 leaflets when Tiger went missing and had several really nasty calls and what made me even more angry with them was that it could have been a child that answered the phone to the bast*rds!

Marvin where are you? Come back soon. ?

CBear cats have been known to disappear for weeks/years actually and still manage to come back so don't give up hope. xx

I don't understand ............ Do you mean that they give you false information to try and get a reward, or they are abusive?

Sorry just got back to this thread. There wasn't a reward offered but the calls were just abusive. We received 4 calls and I won't go into the details as honestly what some callers said was nothing short of evil.

CB has he came back yet?

    Hi

just ready our post and I know exactly what you are going through. My Maddie went missing one Sunday evening and hubby and I put notes through all the doors on the Tuesday and then posters further afield on the Thursday. The following Sunday a neighbour down the road could hear a cat mewing (very raspy sound so I couldn't tell if it was her or not) in next doors shed. I had to wait for 5 hours till they came home, and they opened it up and a skinny Maddie with no collar came out of the dark. I wrapped her in a towel and took her home - she has been very much a cuddly cat since then.

So don't give up home, but do put posters up a lot further then you would have thought Marvin would go.

    Hope he comes home soon,

    Heather

Sorry, not been on in ages, seems like every waking hour has been t work or on a cat hunt. Just to update you, still no sign ofhim. I's been a week and two days now. We've put up posters and put leaflets through doors, we went through our insurance to get an animal search organisation to make their own leafets and posters and to distribute them - they went into places like the library and shops and gyms as well as people's houses. We've got an article in tonight's local paper, the organisation we used contacted them and they agreed to run it. We've contacted vets, the rspca, the council, shelters and everyone else we can think of.

I know it's not impossible, but I think we're going to have to come to terms with the fact that we may not see Marvin again. We're both devastated, he's such an amazing cat, and a little weirdo as well. It's horrible, evey time i come home I think he might be there waiting for me but he's not Smiley sad His brother Otis is getting lots of attention, but that's just making us realise how different they are and it's making us miss Marvin loads. Am crying at the drop of a at at the moment (including at work, v. embarrassing!)

Anywya, thanks all for all the supportive posts, will keep you updated if we hear anything more, I just don't think we will now.

Oh no ... I was so hoping this post was going to be more positive news. Don't lose all faith - cats can come home months down the line ... but you've done all you can by the sounds of it for the time being, so maybe its now down to Marvin and fate ....

I really hope you do see him again - big hugs to you and Otis too ...

Just a thought....but have you ever moved house?

He might have possible done a "Homeward Bound"?

We got them as kittens about a month before we moved. We wer ei a flat in the city centre, they never went out because they were too young and because of where we were. When we moved, they stayed in a coupe of months until they were neutered, so this is really the only home they've known.

My main hope now is that he hasn't suffered at all
