OT my mum just made me cry

irrelephant, 6 January, 2010 at 19:55 Posted on Planning 0 21

I've just had dinner with my parents and topic of conversation came onto the family photoshoot i bought them for christmas. I asked when they were going to book it for and mum said 'oh i dont know. soon probably.' so i said 'well seeing as its valid till september, could you book it for when i've lost some more weight'. her reply 'what year will that be then?' [:'(]

I pointed out i've already lost some weight (about a stone i think but might have put a bit back on over christmas) and that at least i'm trying to which she said 'well youve just had chocolate cake for pudding and were eating roses chocolates the other day. Not trying that hard are you'

I hate my mum sometimes.

Thats not a nice thing to say but sometimes you just have to bite your tongue when it comes to family. Don't let it bum you out, just carrying on losing weight but do it for you. ?

    ? Here's a hug...

Try not to let it get to you, she probably means well in her own way. I don't really know what to say but didn't want to read and run.

I know how you feel as Im desperate to lose weight and struggling

    xx

Sophy i can 100% say its not jealousy. she's a size 12 after three kids and illness which makes mobility harder for her. I'm a size 18/20 and i'm shorter her than her too.

Thanks for the hugs though. Just bums me out because i'd had such a good day with D otherwise and now she's made me feel awful.

Hi DWC, your mum probably doesn't realise how difficult it is to lose weight and how rubbish you feel if you have a blip and put a bit on. Like you I lost just over a stone but put some back on over xmas.

Maybe she's attempting tough love - making horrible comments to 'encourage'you to lose weight.

Try not to take it to heart cos you're doing really well with the weight loss x

Oh babe, thats a Motherism for you. Mine does the same too and shes not one to talk! Did you bollok her out??????????

have a hug, you've done well. I tried to lose weight for my wedding and gained it instead.....

in a few days i'd be tempted to remind her of how hurtful she was..... or....take the family shoot for yourself and a few pals lololol sod 'em.

I'm sure she didn't mean it to sound that cruel but sometimes people need to think before they open their mouths. I'm in the same boat - desperately trying to get 5 stone of baby weight off (and that baby's now 5 years old!!) and for people who are naturally smaller they just don't realise how difficult it is.

You keep your chin up and know that you're trying, then one day when you're stick thin and even more beautiful you can reminder her of this! ?

Can't remember who said it, but i definitely think its her tough love attitude. She always says things like that but sometimes they really are hurtful.

Nona i didn't bollox her, i just said she was hurtful and walked away. No point arguing with her, she'll just laugh at me. In a few days i'll just say 'can you maybe book the photo thing for the summer, when i'm finished with uni, then i don't have to think about it at easter.' and just not mention the weight thing again. I'll just silently prove to her i can do it

Oh DWC, that's so not the post I thought was going to be in here, I thought it was a made you cry with something touching, tug at the heart strings sort of thing.

I hope your ok, please try and not let it get to you, as you said you've already lost weight and you'll prove her wrong when you keep losing it.

I know her comment will be hard to just let go, so everytime you think about it, use that as your motivation to keep going!x

Hon you know what I've learnt whilst losing weight? Is it is the negative comments that used to spur me on try that bit harder and get to my goals!

PLEASE don;t take on what she says personally, you will lose weight at your own pace, don;t wait to take photos until you have lost it all big or small you are beatiful now

    xxx

Thanks girls. I am so sick of my mum and my grandma telling me i'm fat. They compare me to my cousin who is well over 25 stone and a size 26 and i dont have the same body shape as her at all. I am a size 18-20 but i have a very definite waist and hourglass shape. just a bit more padding.

steelgoddess, you obviously have more faith in my looks than i do! lol

You've done well to lose a stone, keep trying but if you can't let your hair down n have a few treats at christmas then when can you?

As a few others have said its healthier & longer lasting if you lose it slowly, if it comes off quick n goes back on alot faster!

    How insensitive by your Mum.

One thing though she may have just given you the biggest boost. Good luck but don't beat yourself up over it, H2B loves you for you and if he is happy then what matters? x

Didn't want to R&R - just wanted to say it might be a bit of jealousy - she can see the weight you're losing, and feels like she wants to be the slim one, it might be a bit of tough love, or she might have just been in a mood, but either way, although it was hurtful you know what you're achieving - (and nobody counts Xmas!). It's a long road but IT will be a rewarding one. Smiley smile
