OT People with cats please (dont read if eating)

teeheeyoucrazyguys!, 23 October, 2009 at 17:28 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hello....

I know theres a few moggy lovers here... Hubbys made me book an appt with the vet tomorrow as I found some rather unpleasant business behind the sofa. Cats eating fine, playing around, sleeping lots and generally being catish. When I found this little surprise, I thought oh dear, babys been sick, poor thing. But it still looks decidely dodgy. So hubby called immediately and insisted that we took him to the vet.

Is he over-reacting or should we get it checked to be on the safe side?? I just hate to think we are wasting vets time (although we need more ear drops anyhoo....)

advice appreciated. x

No harm in letting them have a look, better safe and all that - but cats can be a bit funny sometimes. I would probably wait a couple of days to see.

Cats eat and drink all sorts of disgusting things, so i wouldn't be too worried. But it wouldn't harm to take him to the vets.

If it was me I would wait 24 hours to see how he is. If he doesn't eat his dinner, drink, do the loo as normal then I'd worry more although no harm in having him checked over.

I'd get it checked anyway, you'll feel twice as bad if anything is wrong and you didnt do anything about it. My 6 month old has just started eating cotton buds ?

Cheers gurls, hes eating fine (we have changed his diet as he likes wet food afterall so for the last week hes been getting a weeeeeeeeeee tin of cat food in the evening) hes playful, hes couthy, hes happy....hes zonked on his blanket on the sofa at the moment. I personally think its a bit OTT rushing off to the vets but least we can get more of his ear drops as mites are giving him a real hard time.

I'd probably wait 24 hours to see how he is but that said, it wouldn't hurt to get him checked out and if you need drops and stuff then its 2 birds and 1 stone

I have a very active, slightly mad 4 year old tabby and when we first got her she did something similar and we took her to the vets and told us she was fine prob ate something dodgy. It turns out that she was a house cat (got her from cats protection) and she is now more of an outdoor cat and eats EVERYTHING !!! you name it, she prob eaten it. Her favourites at the moment are butterflies/moths and mice (which she brings us sometimes alive)

I'd monitor the cat over the weekend and note anything that they eat or strange. I've just had a thought, how easily can the cat get out/ access to tray ? it could be just an accident if they got scared (fireworks etc)

Hi you said it looks like grass, cats eat grass if they have a dodgy tum, it helps them get rid of whatever has given the dodgy tum. If he keeps being sick then take him to the vets, but they eat stuff and be sick quite alot. Our dog we have now is pretty much the same and had to take her vets couple of weeks ago because she kept being sick about 10 times in afternoon, she had eaten something that had given her gastroentritus, think it was some kind of berry.

Hope your little moggy is ok x

Our cat was also a house cat (hes two) that we got from the cat shelter and hes now out in the big wide open air (its torrential rain out there) and we think hes on a 5-mouse-a-day habit.

Fortunately he doesnt bring them inside. Hes always chomping on grasses but thats pretty normal as it does aid digestion and given what he tries to eat out there I'm not surprised.

We took him in this morning where hubby admitted that perhaps he was being a bit over protective but better safe than sorry Vet found nowt wrong, his temperature was fine (poor babe getting that done) we are wining with his ear mites so got more drops for them, yayyy. He looks and feels fine and though I havent seen much water drinking the vet said as we had started him on wet food he wouldnt drink as much. He no longer uses his tray as hes out galavanting around fields for about 15 hrs a day now so we never see him poop no more...and somehow keeps it all in at night time, like from 9pm till 7am (surely thats not healthy?? lol) his cat flaps open from 7am till 9pm

so yup hes ok, just keep an eye out for any other vomit situations....but I think its a case of whatever he eats thats wrong he will undoubtedly get rid of it......

Glad he's been given the all clear!! i think cat blurgh is quite normal ... the stuff they drink/eat can be pretty minging. mine actually on occassions re-eat what they thrown up (not fur balls mind, that would just be wrong!).

Don't ask me what thats about but .... maybe they couldnt' decide if it was worth keeping down or not...!

    xx

Glad he's OK, ours have the odd vomit, it's always when they've gobbled their dry food up too quickly though!
