ot quite upset

superlauren321, 13 March, 2010 at 21:56 Posted on Planning 0 10

Oh's family came round today and his brother is getting married about 6 months before us.

inevitably the conversation moved around to weddings and we mentioned our favours. my nanna died of cancer 5 years ago and macmillan cancer care were absolute godsends so oh and i agreed that we would make donations on everyones behalf to this charity.

when we said this today the response was 'we're not bothered what a waste of money. they've got a bloody chocolate fountain at our wedding without us doing something like that aswell'.

i know im overreacting, but its really really important to me that we do this and it really upset me that they dismissed our whole idea so quickly.

sorry just needed a rant

Aww Lauren, just ignore them, the problem is your doing something worthwhile whereas the chocolate fountain will be a novelty for all of 5 mins.

I like what your doing and if its something you find important then stuff them!!

I would definitely go with your idea. Agree with above. Much more thoughtful than a chocolate fountain! Don't listen to the in-laws.

I think its a fab idea.. Cancer research do trolley tokens as favours which i am considering as favours as 3 members of our family have had cancer now..

Completely agree with all above - its unfortunate that they reacted in such a dismissive...(and tbh a little disrespectful) way - but I think if its important to you, and it clearly is, then its your decision. I am sure they are the exception and most people would think it was a lovely idea......and far from a waste of money!

We've bought the men Cancer Research keyrings as cancer has affected both our families, particularly mine more recently. Two of my wedding guests have died of cancer before the wedding and another three are currently battling it. What you're doing is a lovely thing and i think you need to let it go over your head. Their comment was obviously one of those things that was said without thinking and was a selfish thing to say. Ignore them, it's your wedding. xxx

Thanks guys i do tend to overreact to most things so its nice to hear that im not alone in thinking that wasnt necessary. i know they were talking about favours in general but for them to dismiss the idea altogether was a little upsetting

    thanks guys!

It's a wonderful idea what you're doing with your wedding favours - a lovely gesture supporting a worthy cause. Just ignore what your brother and his fiancee said - they obviously said this without thinking. Just rise above it and continue with your ideas. MacMillan cancer care do a wonderful job and help families enormously. Good on you ? sorry just have to say that if you were my daughter, sister etc, I would be so proud of what you are doing! xx

Yours is a brilliant idea. Hold your head up high and remember......while organising a celebration for your own happiness, you've given a thought to others.

Dont let it bother you. Hes a pillock.

Let him waste on money on a cooking-oil filled ghastly machine.

    you're doing a good thing.
