Thanks everyone, bit of an update...they are trying to fit him with a portable oxygen thing. They still don't know what's caused it but don't want to keep him in any longer than they have to in case he picks something else up. so if he will keep the mask on ok he will be coming home...

Thank you so much. He ended up being sent home last night. He has bronchiolitis and another bacterial infection in his lungs so he's now on high dose antibiotics. They said to make sure he has plenty of fluids as best they can (he's having trouble drinking though because he's short of breath). He's really pale though and when he coughs it's the most awful sound. He's sleeping lots but his mum and dad have had to take it in turns to watch him all night.

Glad he's home. my sister had bronchioloitis when she was the same age and made a full recovery with no long term problems with her lung function (she's now 22), so fingers crossed for him and that he makes a full recovery
