Ooooh Rae i didnt realise this, i work with children who have trachy's for a variety of reasons, a couple who have also then gone on to have this op, and be decannulated and it has gone well as i hope it will do for her, i have absolutely everything crossed honey big hugs to you and your family! x x x

That's a big relief to hear lorna. The team at GOSH couldn't give many statistics on this type of op as it doesn't happen too often so good to hear of positive outcomes. They've tried decann a few times now and it's always failed so they don't think her airway is strong enough? It's taken a bit of damage for various reasons and she's had the trachy since she was 10 weeks old so she knows no different, bless her.

Just had a text to say she's in theatre and it will take around 2 hours so fingers crossed from here on in x

Its something that has been done a few times at BCH, prof henderson and prof flemming are the main docs there that the children i care for see.

obviously i dont know what other probs your niece has that may affect her recovery, but from my experience the children who have had this op either because the muscles have been weak, the airway is too narrow or not formed properly etc they have done well they havent always been decannulated straight away but have recovered well x

Aww, poor little baby girl... its got me in tears reading this, i hate it when children arent well.
