OT - What's your favourite thing about Christmas??

WeddingPrincess, 21 October, 2009 at 20:15 Posted on Planning 0 29

It's sooooo slow on here just recently so thought i'd try and lift the mood a little....

Sooooo...go on what is your favourite thing about the festive season which is so fast approaching??

I'll start...I love Christmas films! Cheesy, tacky and feels so wrong when you watch them at any other time of year!! My personal favourites are Home Alone, Love Actually and The Santa Clause!!

I love ALL those films too!

Also love Miracle on 34th Street.

My favourite thing about Christmas apart from my kids faces on Christmas morning has to be spending time with loved ones and (relatively) guilt free choccie scoffing!

Yes the films are fab, i just love everything to do with christmas, the build up is great, decorating the tree, our local radio station also has a christmas appeal every year, its a whole day of auctions in aid of local charities the lots are amazing, but its the spirit they all get into, we normally listen to it all day and put the christmas tree up at the same time, late night shopping too when all the lights in the towns etc are on, i love going to the midnight mass too, not this year though as im on a night shift (who says santa doesnt exist!! lol ) The look on all the kids faces has to be the ultimate in bringing 'christmas cheer' x

Ok after my dramas today xmas is really the last thing I wanted to think about (issues with the catalogue and decorations at work, don't ask.....)

    But:

    1. Time off work!!!!!!

    2. Food!

    3. decorations, lots of candles everywhere, etc etc...

I don't see my Family at xmas (they are abroad) , so that side of it is something I don't like as I miss them very much...

I love Xmas day itself, we have a bit of a tradition, smoked salmon and scramble egg brekkie with a glass of bubbly, open pressies to each other and baby's pressies, then do our visits, then we will be preparing dinner this year. We always have our starters and main, then open our family gifts, then have desert and all chill out to some xmas tunes. In the eve when everyone has gone and baba is in bed, we have a big glass of vino and snuggle up to watch some xmassy films.

    Love it, can't wait.

(Feels like putting an xmas cd on).

I love Christmas, all the build up and everything is so pretty! and I love the films and the music. I always put a couple of Christmas films on and have a day drinking and wrapping and writing cards, love it!

Unfortunately I hate Christmas day. We have to visit all our families or someone will take the hump which means visiting my family which is always loud and frustrating, and his dad+dad's wife+stepsister+ neice and nephew and also his mum. We don't get to have much of a Christmas together as we have to keep everyone happy and we have to drive to each family so can't drink and we don't even get a moment just the two of us. I know that sounds totally selfish but noone ever says we'll come and see you!

I've started shopping, I have bits and pieces for about 6 people, but no big gifts yet.

Have got engagement party, my b.day and baby's b.day to sort out before then too.

Don't have to buy for h2b this year cos we've decided to go away on boxing day as our pressy to each other instead - yey!

The Best Thing Which I Like and I'm Excited About The Christmas is Christmas Gift ,Here I'm Sharing With You Some Of The Best Tips Of making Home Made Christmas Gift:

A bit stereotypical, but it can still be great. There are so many different types of yarn available. Some have fringe or special textures to them. This gift will not go wrong if you know the person's favorite color. It is easy to teach yourself to knit with a beginner's book. Hats are also easy to make. The best thing is that a scarf and a hat don't need to be specially fit.One tip, though. Sometimes a hat looks like it will be too long and cover the whole face, but it always ends up shorter because it has to stretch a lot. Even if you have never knit before, scarves are the perfect project to learn on. There are many books available with instructions and pictures to teach yourself how to knit. Even better, ask a friend who knows how to teach you.

H2B off work and spending the evenings when the children are in bed snuggled up knowing a late night wont kill us!
The boys pinching chocolate off of the tree and when asked 'have you been eating the chocolates again' they will look hurt by the accusation - with chocolate all over the sofa and their little mouths.
The amount of food i can consume knowing that its the festive period so its expected and oh yes the glasses of warm mulled wine from the hob! Yum Yum.

Also everyone will hate me but i nearly have all my christmas presents already - and this year we will be writing our invites for the wedding!! Exciting stuff.

I like the time off work, all the decorations and eating what you want for a few days without feeling (too) guilty about it.

Also love to watch Bad Santa and Elf at XMas time so will be digging them out soon!!!!

Hi Gillsy, I hate 'bad Santa'..... santa is not supposed to swear and smoke.... ? He is a nice jolly man, not 'getting his jollies' with all the dept store staff...!! ?....!! But Elf is a great film.

I love Xmas for all the time off work, candles and fairy lights (my tree lights are on first thing in the morning), late night shopping (when shops arent busy), visiting family. This year we will be traveling down to my Mum on Xmas day - Its the first time I will have seen my Mum on Xmas day since moving to scotland (6 years ago) - I'm really looking forward to it! And also looking forward to not hosting christmas at our house - running out of fridge and freezer space, having to queue up for the shower, spending a fortune on stuff that wont get eaten....

    Not long now tho...! ?

I do exactly the same, I like to make a big thing of decorating the tree and wrapping presents. Last christmas I had a 90 day free trial for love film, and I ordered loads of christmas films, it was great. x

Oooh i love the good smushy christmas films like love actually. i really love miracle on 34th street, its my ultimate christmas film. I also really like watching the snowman.

My other favourite bits of christmas are snuggly time with mr delish on christmas eve in front of our little xmas tree that we decorate in his room and drinking a bottle of wine and chit chatting.

I get really excited by christmas cards and the pretty pictures on them (i'm not simple i promise)

I love ALL christmassy food. The big expensive luxurious food shopping trip is the BEST. I love pate, and stuffing, and christmas pudding with brandy sauce, and christmas cake with a cup of tea. Stuff i don't normally allow myself at other times.

I like opening presents and seeing people's faces when they open a gift i've put a lot of thought into.

Generally i just love all of christmas. I think the only thing i don't like is how long the day is!

ETA: i especially love love love wrapping christmas presents and co-ordinating all my papers and ribbons and stuff, it appeals to my OCD side ?

I love going on a drive around to see decorated houses.

There was one house near us that used to do theirs every year and have a collection pot for charity. Neighbours have now complained about the traffic in the road and the council have ordered them to stop. How uncharitable!

I love love love Christmas songs! Mariah Carey's All I Want for Chrstmas, Wham!'s Last Christmas, Merry Xmas Everyone, Wish it Could be Christmas everyday... The list goes on!

Lol! I always do all the presents from OH, him and my family would expect no less!! OH actually finds it funny now how possesive i am about the wrapping! I love it though, and you get to make everything look so nice and purrfect!

Although, I do let him occassionally wrap the dogs present - the dog loves ripping off layers of paper and as she doesnt appreciate my ribbows and bows and sparkly bits its only fair to let OH do that one!

    God I sound crazy!

    My fav parts are;

After finally getting the kids to bed on Christmas Eve, getting all their presents down and laying them out into their own sections!!

Doing up a snack for FC and Rudolf with milk, cookie and carrot sticks! Also like sprinkling a bit of flour around the tray and making hoof prints!!!

Getting the yummy dinner prepared and cooking!!!

    Decorating the house!!

    Bad parts are;

Rubbish everywhere - all the time

EVERYTHING needs batteries................... Note to self; stockpile of batteries needed, hate trying to find a garage thats open to pay £10 for 2 batteries on Xmas Day!!

    Excited now yippeeee!!

    Baileys

    Christmas carols

    Vintage Christmas hits.

I look forward to having children so that I can have a proper family christmas. Something I've not really had before....i've had other families christmases lol but not really one of my own (mum doesnt cook/drink/eat meat or like to go out usually) in a few years time, there will be no visiting others and having others round to us.....

I know its not everybody's favourite but I like alternative things and its a nice story in the end up (was going to say 'a touching story' but then thought that was inappropriate in reference to this movie...lol)
