O/T - Your favourite Christmas films

The Sock Chicken, 7 December, 2008 at 17:09 Posted on Planning 0 25

What are your favourite Christmas films? Not just the ones they put on the telly at Christmas but the ones you watch the week before that really put you in the Christmas mood.

Mine are Love Actually, that puts me in the Christmas mood, and I love The Muppets Christmas Carol

Miracle on 34th Street also makes me feel really Christmassy (the new version)

    I love Christmas films!

Every year I HAVE to watch Santa Claus the movie (Dudley Moore one) on Christmas eve.

Also, love Elf, home alone and love actually

I love miracle on 34th street too but OH can't stand the girl in it and just chats the whole time calling her gormless. Really gets on my nerves so can only watch that one on my own.

Another vote for 'It's a wonderful life'.

The most moving, warm, tragic, yet inspiring movie ever made. If this movie doesn't make you glad to be alive and appreciate friends and family, no matter how distant they are, nothing ever will!

All the National Lampoon Christmas vacation films - hilarious! Another vote for Elf and Wonderful Life. There's another one I like too but can't remember the name of it...it stars Arnold Swarzeneggar and he's trying to get his little boy the latest Xmas toy (some sort of a robot) and ends up fighting everyone for it - that's funny too.

I think the Arnie film is Jingle all the Way.

We've watched Santa Claus The Movie every Christmas Eve since the children were little and they are now 24 and 20! He is the REAL Santa.

There's also a really really funny film called The Christmas Story and it's almost become a cult film in America. I highly recommend it - hilarious.

I love the one where I think its Tim Allen and he has to become the new Santa when the real one falls off his roof! I remember going to see it at the cinema when it was first released with my family as my Mums birthday is near christmas and have loved it ever since! I also love Elf, Love Actually and The Holiday

Brilliant - sorry to bore you ladies but I just found one of my most favourite quotes from Bernard & the Genie. Very funny film:

Bernard is just trying to explian to the Genie, who has been in the lamp for 2000 years what Christmas is!

Bernard Bottle: Originally, it was supposed to celebrate the birth of this chap called Jesus Christ, who was born, well, about 2000 years ago.
    Genie: Jesus, you say?
    Bernard Bottle: Yeah.
Genie: But I knew this guy.
    Bernard Bottle: You did not!
Genie: I did, I mean, what did he do to get so famous?
Bernard Bottle: Well, he turned out to be the Son of God.
Genie: No! I thought he was kidding.

    xx
