O/T Your favourite Christmas food/nibbles

The Sock Chicken, 19 December, 2008 at 10:46 Posted on Planning 0 23

What is your favourite? It has to be food that you usually only eat or see in the shops around Christmas time.

Mine are: sausages wrapped in bacon, brandy butter (on its own ?), Tesco mini duck rolls with hoisin dip and Tesco finest filo pastry parcels with cranberry & brie ?

    Peppermint candy canes!

I bought 2 boxes 'for Christmas' when they first put all the Christmas stuff out in Tesco... they've all gone and I've made a start on the 2 extra boxes I had to buy on eBay because I couldn't find them anywhere else ?

A mackeral pate my Mum always makes at Xmas, a good turkey dinner with lots of BREAD SAUCE (love it) as well as all the other trimmings - even like the Brussels at Xmas though wouldn't touch them at any other time of the year. Mince pies and Stollen (German style Xmas cake). I know they are all pretty traditional things but love em.

I'm very partial to mince pies also, and definitely sausages wrapped in bacon! *Drools*

Also for a sweet treat, the obligatory Quality Street and Roses! So far have managed to stop myself from diving head first into the tins that H2b has bought indoors, but it's only a matter of time!

And tipple of choice on Xmas day has to be champagne ?

Im not very keen on roast dinner so my favourite christmasy food isnt the dinner, i prefer all the trimmings like the cold turkey sandwiches, cheese and biscuits, christmas pudding with custard and brandy butter, the pork pie you get at christmas with cranberrys on the top, we always have a ham joint too and a treacle pudding as my dad hates raisins so wont eat any of the mince pies, christmas cake etc!!

My dad has a very special recipe he calls Millionaire's Salad that he always makes only on Christmas Eve ever since I was tiny and has now become a tradition - It's basically a mixture of white cabbage, onion, cucumber, celery, red and green peppers and tomatoes, very finely diced in a special vinegar and oil dressing but is absolutely perfect with gammon and cheeses. I make it now every year now and just the smell alone is completely evocative of Christmas for me. Even if we've been away at Christmas I have to take a tub with me!

I'm really baaa humbug when it comes to Christmas food as I HATE roast dinners and don't like Christmas pud, mince pies, Christmas cake and I don't eat chocolate at all

That said I more than make up for it with cheese a biscuits and I LOVE pigs in blankets, and shortbread and mulled wine and nuts and all the pastry party food ....

Oooooh I'm gonna have to do so much exercise in the NY to get into my dress !
