OTers, diagnose me please?

Mellow_Yellow, 17 April, 2013 at 14:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

I know, I know, the internet isn't the best place...but work is too hectic for me to take time off at the moment, and I figure that you are a hell of a lot better than Google.

For the last few days, just before I wee (literally sitting down on the pan) I've had a sharp pain in the region of my right ovary, as soon as I begin to wee the pain passes. I would say that I have been needing to wee more frequently, and each time I go, it feels as if I have been holding it in, even though I haven't - I drink 2litres of water most days in work (between 9-5) and so go every two hours roughly.

Last night, about 5am, I got up to wee (I don't do this regularly, but I woke up because I was too hot, and then couldn't lie on my stomach to get back to sleep as I needed to wee) so off I went. I got the pain again, and again it subsided as soon as I went. I got back in to bed, and about a minute later I got this horrific stabbing pain right across my knicker line, at the front. I stood up (or struggled up, more like) and tried to walk around to shift it but couldn't. I went to the kitchen to get some painkillers but only made it as far as the hall before I had to crouch down in a ball because the pain was so bad. I was moaning like those women on One Born Every Minute and I was actually crying - I never cry and I have a relatively high pain threshold, so I was fairly concerned. H woke up with the noise of me sobbing and moaning from the hall and got me painkillers and a hot water bottle and helped me back to bed. The pain passed for maybe five minutes, and then came back again for five minutes, and continued like this in waves for about half an hour. I finally drifted off to sleep clutching the hot water bottle, which seemed to help - either that or the painkillers kicked in.

Today, I feel like I've done a load of sit ups, the sharp pain isn't there but I'm achey where the pain was. I should also mention that once a few days ago, and again last night, I also had shooting pains in my back passage, although I'm not sure if it's related. Also, again today, each time I wee, it feels as if I have been holding it in for a while, even though I haven't.

So, otters, there you have it, diagnose me...please?

MY my MIL has been complaining of the same thing, almost exactly your symptoms, when she went to the doctors they told her she had a UTI and gave her some antibiotics, she went back after a few days as she was still in alot of pain and they said it was definitely a UTI and sent her away with painkillers. She has to monitor it over the next few days and go back if her symptoms worsen. I spoke to her today and she said she was feeling much better.

Thanks Claire, interesting. Well, I have an unused course of amoxycillin at home (3 months old) so will take the five day course along with paracetamol and see where I'm at. If it is a UTI, hopefully it clears up, and if it's a stone, hopefully it passes - I'll be upping my fluid intake also. I usually drink two litres at work but often very little or nothing at home, so I'll be sure to up my at home intake for a while in the hope of flushing whatever it is out.

I've since looked it up on NHS and it could fit...along with a bladder infection, UTI, PID, and loads of other nasties *stepping away from Google now*

It could be a UTI, rthe painful wee would indicate that to me.

Either way- its not normal to be in that much pain so that you cant walk about. I would call the GP to be sure.

I agree,it does sound like an infection...hopefully the antibiotics will work but also try drinking cranberry juice,it is helpful for urinary infections and kidney stones.

I would say UTI too. I've had a lot of UTIs and most are uncomfortable but some are agony and I've been convinced its something more serious. Although I got antibiotics and was called back to get a longer course of stronger ones as the ones I had wouldn't work. Whatever it is, hope it clears up soon. Most importantly for me, I HATE needing the toilet all the time!!

That's the thing, it doesn't hurt when I wee. It hurts seconds before I start weeing and even then the pain is up in my ovary area, as opposed to down below...no stinging or burning. I know I should see the gp but I really can't this week, I will go next week if symptoms persist.

I'm not sure it gas up hurt when you just wee, I think any related area pain could be a uti.

Tbh I'm a fine one to talk. I have had pain in that region for about a week, still not gone anything about it.

This morning it stings/burns a little when I pee, nothing like what I've had in the past, but it seems to point towards UTI. My urine has also turned cloudy (looks like pressed apple juice ?) which NHS lists as a symptom. Looking at the NHS symptom list I have all but two, so I'm voting UTI for the time being.

Thanks otters, who needs a gp, eh? ?
