Other peoples post!

Kjay, 6 November, 2012 at 13:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

It will be 5yrs in Jan since I bought my house (well got the mortage) and it was empty for around 6 months before.

At first I got oodles of post for several other people who previously lived here (it was a rented house so had quite a few short term tennents apparently)

After about 18 months of returning to sender / not known at this address it pretty much died off.

A few random names have now been appearing through the door- todays is 'Hailealalemayehu' and it just appears to be a British Gas circular type letter I am pretty sure I haven't recieved anything for that name before- do you think people nick your address or these circular letters just get mailed out willy nilly?!

And on a side note what kind of a name is Hailealalemayehu?

We get post for our landlords a lot and for other randoms.

On our road, each side has a different name but they each have the same numbers (eg 1-100 Hitched Mansions & 1-100 C*nfetti Towers). I often get post for the lady who lives at the same number on the other side of the road. What's a bit freaky is that she has the same first and middle name as me and has the same first letter of her surname. What's even more freaky is she got married/changed her name recently and her new surname initial is the same as my new surname.

We've been in our house for 3 years and still get the previous peoples post on a daily basis. This is despite them filling in one of those forms at the post office to divert it to their new address. Its not just junk either its important things. So annoying! We have a full drawer that we keep for them and they come round and collect it every couple of months.

I thought you just typed in a load of letters as you didnt want us to know the real name ha!

I think you should be careful because my OH's parents had this and it turned out someone had been using their address and they had loads of final warning letters & bailiffs actually turned up in the end because they ignored them! It turned out it was someone down the road from them and they ended up getting arrested for fraud or something!

Maybe the Haileetc name is because someone's wanted to use a comparison site or something but not use their real name because of all the spam you get... like when these sites force you to put in a phone number, lots of people make one up because if you put in your real number then they'll call you for weeks afterwards trying to get you to sign up to this or that.

You are too kind! It would be straight back in the post box with NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS if that kept happening to me!

When I moved into my flat I got a few bits of post for the old owners. I accidentally opened one letter (didn't read who it was addressed to) and it was from a debt collection agency as they owed a lot of money. I rang the company concerned to give them the address I had been given as a forwarding address and it didn't exist!

Thankfully never had any further trouble but I did open all post for them after that so I could deal with anything.

We have lived in our flat nearly 3 years and like you for the first year I was returning everything to the post office but now I refuse to waste any more of my time so it just goes straight in the bin.

We still get someone's Scandinavian magazine subscription which wouldn't be so bad if I could read the ruddy thing. We also get random parcels delivered from ebay (latest being a shiny new Ipad cover) where someone clearly hasn't updated their address on their ebay account.

Oh we even got a home Chlamydia testing kit for the previous tenant.... For some reason they never came to collect it!

We have been here a couple of months and we are still getting post from the old owners. I have been sending things back with a sticker saying they don't live here and the amount of post has decreased but we get some things with no return address that I must admit I have opened. Some of it is quite personal including what is wrong with her son. I must admit I opened them cos I am getting so many from the hospital. I don't understand how people cannot change their address. I know there is a lot of post but some of it seems quite important as in credit card, applications. How easy would it be to be naughty! I wouldn't but it makes me think???

We get an Xmas card every year for ''the Collins family" they moved our 7 years ago so I wonder which one if there friends they haven't told? Poor people send a card every year. When I lived in my little flat I used to get someone else's nme subscription, at the time it was much appreciated.

Genius... I'm going to print some sticky labels now and take them home!

We save the letters addressed to the previous owners and we're currently dropping them off at the estate agents every so often (they're only across the road so no major hardship) but I think we'll stop soon as it's dwindled down now to mainly 'junk' mail like offers from Waitrose etc. We do get post for people neither we nor the previous owners have heard of. Nothing good, only boring-looking letters! They go back saying "not known at this address, return to sender".

We also keep getting post for Flat 3, 8 Blahblah. We live at 3a Blahblah, it's obviously the postie not looking properly. We take them round, the door for 8 Blahblah is next to the bus stop we use in the morning so it's easy.

We've been in our house for over 5 years now and we don’t get the previous peoples normal post anymore but we still get their birthday, Christmas and other cards, oh and pension statements. For the first two years we sent stuff on to them now I don’t bother it just goes in the bin. At Christmas we now have the 'Smith Table' a table dedicated to them. We also know that since they moved out they have had 2 further children as we get more birthday cards and had 'New Baby' cards. You'd think they would have told people.

One year we even got a birthday present from some one for them. It had a return address so i sent it back with a note. Another time we got an invite to a friends retirement party, I put it in the bin then a week later we get another letter from the retirement planner asking for a contribution towards the party. I ignored again. 2 weeks later we get another letter asking why we hadn’t responded. I just sent a blank email saying they moved out 3 years ago. Wonder what we'll get this year.......

Can't understand how people don't sort out their personal and paid for stuff!

Maybe they never told some people to get away from them!

When I moved into my own flat many years ago I didn't get any post at all, took quite a while to realise the letter box was nailed shut (was a repossession). Once the post started coming through I got a plasticky envelope every month addressed to the previous owners - kept writing 'moved away, not known at this address' on it and popping back in the post but they kept coming...So I opened one - it was a swingers contact magazine full of graphic photos of swingers! It was a paid for subscription and did stop eventually - to my dismay ?

Anything not in your name just cross through the address and name and write in large 'return to sender, not at this address'
