O/Tish How much money do you take when your all inclusive

xxxsnowbunnyxxx, 13 March, 2009 at 10:51 Posted on Planning 0 17

Our tickets have come in for the honeymoon, so I suppose I best get some money too. But as I have never been all inclusive before i'm not sure how much to take.

We are going to Domanican Republic, it is down as being 24 hour all inclusive, so I don't think we will need to spend to much, if anything.

I know I need to pay some amercian dollars to get in and out.

But the travel agents say to take some Domanican Paso's for when your out and about.

Has anyone been before ?

I'm getting confused now lol.

Stacy

We tend to take between £500 and £1000, when going AI, depending on where we are and what we plan to do. In Cuba we spent about £200 and booked up 4 or 5 excursions. In Mexico we spent near enough £800 on about 2 excursions. Last year in Cape Verde we took £500 and came back with £400. I spent £100 at the airport before departure ?

Some people go without any money. It's down to you.

I haven't been to DR but I'd suggest you take a few hundred sterling in USD and change for DR pesos when you get there.

Alternatively take a card and withdraw fund out there when you need it as you tend to get better exchange rates.

    Hi,

I have been twice and loved it there, I went to the North and the South, which part are you going too ? There seemed to be more places to gooutside the hotel when I stayed in the North, Playa Dorada ?? There was a shopping centre type place that had a few bars and restaurants, on the South it was very much hotel based.

What you will probably spend most of your money on is the excursions, which I do recommend you do especially the ones going into the centre of the island, it's stunningly beautiful, though quite upsetting when you see how poverty stricken the people are. The trips were quite pricey so it depends on whether you will pay for them on a credit card or not.

I took dollars when I went, but I can't honestly remember if I took peso's, probably did it was 8 years ago when I went !

If you don't plan on doing exursions then you will need hardly any money as all inclusive is fabulous, if it was me and I wasn't doing the trips I would just take a few hundred quid just incase you need to see a doctor or dentist.

You will love it though, I would definately go back there ?

Just make sure you ONLY come home with US dollars NOT pesos, as I couldn't get mine changed back. Also we found our hotel only cashed travelers cheques into pesos, so we had to spend them there.

We are going to the South, Playa Bayahibe.

I'm not sure how many execustion we would want to go on, so I thought I would just take the card for if we did as we also get paid whilst were out there too.

It was mainly just money for tiping etc. I was thinking about £50 dollars and £50 pesto's, and then if we did need anymore, as you say I will be taking my card with me so I can always withdraw it.

    Thank you.

We're going to the Dominican to - Bahia Main.

Don't forget you need money for entry card (is it $10 each?) and the exit one too ($20 each).

Haven't thought how we'll take. We're going in June so will be interesting to hear how you get on and how much you spend!

Oooh I went to Bayahibe, think the hotel was the Coral Canoa, it was lovely. The beach was gorgeous there. It is very quiet though, I can't remember one place we went to for a meal or drink outside the hotel. There was one shop near our hotel and that was it. But to be honest, the hotels are so fab and everything you need, you don't need to leave them.

Santo Domingo was an interesting day out from the South of the island, can't remember which other excursions I did, but it's a beautiful country and the people are wonderful.

    Hi Stacy,

I went to Dominican all inclusive the year before last - you will only need money for trips.

we took American Dollas and Dominica Pasos - most places accept both but if you are booking trips with your holiday rep you can also pay on your debit card and they accept sterling aswel.

If you are going for 2 weeks and are planning on swimming with dolphins and going on another trip i would suggest you take about £250 for the both of you.

If you are not planning on any trips i would say you would need hardly anything at all!

HTH - if you have any questions shout.

What hotel are you staying in BTW?

Yeah you can swim with dolphins - when we went it was £60 each and you get to kiss them, hold onto their fin and get pulled around, feed them fish and dance with them - it takes about 30 minutes and yuo get your photos taken and then can buy the ones you like - you can also buy a DVD of it.

YOu do this at a place called Ocean World and your hotel will prpobably do day trips there.

Food in the Ocean World is expensive so i wouldnt advise eating there - eat before or take a packed lunch from the hotel.

Oh i bet you are well excited! you will LOVE Dominican!! It was the BEST holiday we went on, the beaches were absolulty beautiful!

Snowbunny - I can't wait either! It looks idyllic. I can't wait for some decent sunshine and two weeks of relaxing with dp our daughter. Not sure if we'll do any excursions, I'll see what you say lol. More concerned about how suitable they''ll be for little one - she's only 2 (nearly 3).

Claireac - go to Ocean WOrld!!

your daughter will LOVE it - she dosnt have to swim with the dolphins - she can just go touch them and have her photo taken with one.

there are also loads of other things that are aimed at the smaller kiddies!

I would say that is probably the only trip that is suitable for smaller kiddies though.

you will LOVE it i am so blimmin jelous!!

Hi, I went to Dominican Republic with my ex years ago.

We took US Dollars travellers cheques and a littlle in cash and then we changed to pasos when we were out there.

We spent about £500 (on credit card) for excursions as we were not lie on the beach people and wanted to stay active.

As it is not safe to go out of resort on own I found the only money we spent was when on excursions, and a couple of bits and bobs from the hotel shop.

If you do go on excursions (cant remember exactly where we went in Dom Rep) but the Monster Truck trip was fab, also the Katamaran & snorkelling was fantastic - got to feed bread to the fish and snorkel over coral reef. Paradis Island trip was nice but a lot of money and hype for what it was.

Any other questions dont hesitate to ask.

I stayed at the Sirenis Cocotal hotel in Punta Cana,

We did the swimming with dolphins thing which I found utterly awful....It was a big swimming pool and they shipped you in and made you wait (well us anyway) for 2 hours to do it. We had to stay in the dolphin arena as they said "if you don't come when you're called you wont be able to swim at all." I should have known that going to place called "Manatee Park", suggests that it will be more business-like, rather than a casual affair!

It was a good holiday, but was spent in a haze of malaria tablets.....THOSE THINGS ARE DISGUSTING!!!! Trust me when I say this! They taste like sucking on a really strong aspirin, and they made me feel dizzy, made my vision cloudy and gave me a headache the whole time.

(Don't shoot me down for saying this as I am not ignorant and understand that these things save lives.)

Those malaria tablets were foul. I'd have rather had another of the Hep A injections than them!!
