OTish - Lightening my hair??

grace85, 15 April, 2010 at 12:30 Posted on Planning 0 14

I need some hair advise ladies.

My natural hair colour is a light brown (I think, lol) and i've been dyeing it a dark brown/redish colour for a while but have been thinking i'd like to go abit more natural for the wedding. Here's some pictures of what it's like.......

And the sort of colour i'd like it to be......

Now my question is, am i going to have to pay salon prices to get it done properly or is there a way of doing it at home that doesn't involve stripping it of all colour and starting again??

TIA. xxxx

The l'oreal experte (I think its called, its in a red box anyway) is great , you just shampoo in a base colour and you get a little brush a bit bigger than a mascara brush and you just put in highlights where you want, so as many or as little as you want. If you've not done it before though I would maybe go to a hairdresser first and get it done properly.

I second mscheerful. Take thee to a good hairdresser and get them to do your first lot of colour, as you'll need to strip out some of your redness.

Once they have a colour you're stable with, then run along to superdrug (not boots as their colours are harsher and more expensive) and find a natural brown, and just top up with that...easy peasy!

That's what i thought i'd have to do MsCheerful and tahdah then keep it up myself.

It's my birthday in a month so i think OH should treat me, he he.

    Thanks girlies. xx

Just try a lighter of colour of hair dye. I am naturally dark but i used a copper dye before and it worked grand and my hair was still in great condition! Just try a slightly lighter dye and get lighter every time i think. Probably would need to be a permanent one tho! Iv been thinking of going darker again for my big day. cos mine is sooo shiney then! lol

Find a decent salon where u live and go in for a consultatio they should always be free of charge, get them to do a strand test first, because those photos u have included above look light highlights and low lights rather than a full head colour, you might get away with lightning it that way rather than having a whole colour correction x xx ?

I agree that you should go to a salon. I've been lightening my hair for years, and the effect was quite gradual. I think get the colour stripped out first, and then have a look at what you want to do - highlights might be a better way to feel more you and still get it how you want it.

I think highlights will be the best option then.

I'm going to book myself into a salon and treat myself, he he.

Thanks for all the advise girlies. ?

Normally when u add lighter bits it makes the base colour of the hair look lighter anyway and seeming u only want caramel tomes this might be the best way to go x x if u have a colour correction ur hair could feel really damaged x
