Awww they are so cute - can't believe how expensive they are but I guess that's the intention to protect them from those who love them until the novelty wears off. My nephew as a pigmy hedgehog called hiccups ?. I would love one too but with two rather excitable beagles I've got no chance of getting another pet (other than my horse) lol. x

What a great name - hiccups

the thing that worries me when they are so expensive is the appeal to bad breeders Smiley sad

Hey i had one, he was called stiffler Smiley heart , he was a lovley little guy, my dad got one from the same litter, she was called lady. a few things you need to know about them, they too can suffer from genetic problems, my fathers hog got wobbly liver syndrom, she lost the use of her legs , she was pts, my parents then went on to own a few more hogs, and each one suffered from something, most had tumours of the jaw, there really isnt a lot you can do for them. a lot of the problem is with bad breeders, like any animal. when an animal is popular breeders will breed them as fast as is possible to make money.

a few years ago there was talk of setting up a registry like the kennel club that dogs have, but too many ppl were breeding willy nilly, the only advice i can give is , do as much searching on the net as you can, know what you r looking for , and use your head when you visit a litter, if they have been bred in poor conditions, walk away, if the owners dont care how they live they probably didnt look into who they were breeding.

on a lighter note they make fantastic pets xxxxxxx

Most welcome , lurking is a good way to start, dont be had by ppl saying they have rare colours etc lol, there are loads of colours none any rarer than others . a popular trick breeders use to get more money . we bred our hogs , with a breeder close to us , his hogs were rather large lol, when we sold ours they came with a compltete care package , food , bedding , instructions etc , all included in the price , if the breeder cares about their hogs they will want to know you have all the information you need to keep your hog happy, we also offered life long aftercare, we even had them back while owners went on holiday lol, if you decide to go ahead and buy one and have any questions please dont hesitate to ask any questions

one thing i would advise b4 you get one is to speak to your vet if you have one , or phone around your local vets , not a lot of vets have any experience with little hogs , we printed all the information we could find on the net , regarding anatomy and common illnesses and made a file up for the vet to keep on record, made life easier and the vet was actually quite grateful lol, (didnt charge any less lol)
