A while ago I posted looking for advice on pubs in London for a casual, inexpensive, fun wedding on a Thursday afternoon in August 2012. We've booked a town hall in our borough to hold the ceremony so all we wanted was a nice pub for the reception, maybe somewhere pretty like Highgate or Islington, somewhere with a garden, where we can perhaps have a hog roast, a nice selection of ales, some wine...well, you get the idea.
I've now had a week of looking around for that mythical pub. Guess what? Lots of other couples want a wedding with the same vibe as us, the result of which we are accumulating an alarming number of "sorry, we're full til the end of 2012" emails. These are not venues with a killer view down the Thames that charge a £10,000 hire fee before you've even had a quote from the caterers. These are PUBS! What I've learned is that, at least in London, your wedding might look just thrown together with the style of Shoreditch Hipster slash Martha Stewart slash Nigella Lawson, but you'll still need to plan the crap out of it. Well. In. Advance.
I haven't given up though, because finally today I've had some positive news from two locations. Will still have to check them out, which will of course mean dragging the fiance along, because although he wants a say he's always dismayed that he actually has to leave the flat to organise our wedding (honestly, he's lovely though).
Fingers crossed we'll get a reception sorted and then I can come back and ask you knowledgable people where I can source cheap flowers in London if it's not Sunday (for Columbia Road Market)?
Best wishes to all!
