Outfit, when to make favours and send invitations HELP!!!

jlew80, 7 April, 2009 at 14:32 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi My partner and I are having our CP on the 11th July 2009. She has picked an ivory dress but I don't know what to wear, I'm definitely not a dress person, I don't know whether to wear ivory trousers and waistcoat or black. If I choose ivory, it will have to match her dress. Black may make me feel like I'm going to work though. Do you think just a waistcoat will be ok, or shall I wear a suit jacket?? HELP!!!

p.s. we are making our own favours and have all the components, when shall we start making them?

pps. when shall we send out the invites, we have already given out save the date cards but some sites say send invitations 2 months before and some say 3??

Thanks

    Hi jlew80

Re what to wear: I would have a think about what you feel comfy in but which you can dress up for the occasion. I mean, something smart and different, so that it feels special but which you feel also sums you up. You could have a chat with your partner and see if you can think of possibilities together and then you could decide a shortlist and select your favourite type of outfit? Then you could have a good look online to see what you want. You don't need to match but just make sure you do not clash. Its hard but try to view it as an enjoyable exercise and not a chore. You'll find the right thing for you and when you do it'll feel right I think.

I am going to send my invitations out 3 months before, asking for all RSVPs to be back 1 month before. I don't think 2 months is long enough myself.

    Hope this helps

    Welcome to Hitched.

Favours - if you have all of the components I'd start making these as soon as possible. Never underestimate how long these crafty things can take to do, especially when you factor in how bored you will be after about the first 5....

Invites - I sent our invites out about 3 and a half months beforehand but I think I was very early! IMO you can send them out whenever you're ready to, although I suppose it can be dependant on when your supliers are wanting your final figures by.

Clothes - I'd say wear whatever you feel comfortable in, but that makes you feel special. Have you got a theme colour you could incorporate into your outfit?

    Hi, welcome to hitched. ?

Think you should just wear something that you like and feel comfortable in, does it HAVE to be ivory or black?

doesnt matter when you start making your favours as long as they are ready for the big day, when my friend got married last year, her brother ended up putting the favours together the morning of the wedding while we were at the hair dressers.

as for the invites think 6-8 weeks before the wedding is the norm but suppose it depends on how far people have to travel, if you've sent save the dates you should be fine!

    hope this helps

    Hi and welcome to Hitched!

Regarding what to wear, i think it's a personal thing to youso i don't think i can really help!

Regarding the invitations, we're getting married on July 25th this year, and we sent our invitations last week with an RSVP deadline of July 1st which gives people three months to reply which i think is long enough! Hope this helps!

    Hiya!

I think you should wear whatever you are happy in. Do you have any other colours scheme that you want to keep to? Perhaps you could wear something wich will compliment her ivory dress but still make you stand out too.

As for invites, its a hard one. I sent ours out early because of rooms at the venue needing to be booked 3 months in advance, but some people still havent replied and i have just 2 weeks till i have to give in final numbers.

I think 2 months is fine, but if you have the invitations ready to go, i would send them out now. Also, a little tip for you (which most people do do, but i didnt) do try and put an rsvp date on there! I so wish i had done this!

As for the favours, make them whenever you have the time. If you have somewhere safe to store them and you start now, you can take your time over them and not panic closer to the time. What are you making for favours?

    Have you been engaged long?

Everyone here is really helpful, and you will get loads of great advice and tips.

look forward to chatting with you more

Hi, thanks for all your responses.

Our colours are Ivory and Sky Blue, I was thinking of wearing a sky blue shirt with my outfit. Karens bouquet will be ivory cala lillies and sky blue roses.

We have been together for 10 and a half years, lived together for 9 and a half and it still feels like yesterday!!

I proposed in a surprise trip to Paris over 5 years ago on the 5th anniversary of when we got together, we have been saving up ever since for our big day, now its almost here, OMG. Starting to panic!!!

Thats a nice colour scheme. I deffinatly would go with the blue shirt then in that case, so that between you you are covering the scheme. Also, i think if you wanted to wear a waistcoat an ivory one which matches her dress would look nice.
