Oven advice needed

scribble, 5 April, 2008 at 15:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I've finally persuaded MrSc. that our oven is knackered and we need a new one.

Never in my adult life have I owned an oven that I could rely on. I muddled along in our last house with an oven that I more or less understood but knew was no good for cooking anything where precision was required. The one we've inherited in our new place simply does not get to anything over 180 degrees and is always much cooler at the bottom. So the prospect of having one that actually works is quite exciting ?.

But as I'm trying to research what to buy, I'm getting bamboozled. What features do I actually need for basic family cooking and baking?

Money is most definitely an object these days and I'm thinking of spending £300-£500, but there's so much variety within that. I'm looking at these two from the same brand and wondering how much I'd miss the traditional convection heat setting if I went for the cheaper one.

Any advice or recommendations??

Ours is a DeLonghi and has been great. The one thing I would say is I wish I'd had a separate oven and grill. More versatile.

I second that one...having a seperate grill is way more convenient than having them together. I wish I had gone for that option whenI bought mine....note to self for next time.

I haven't really got that option as only have space for a single oven sadly - otherwise I would definitely go for a seperate grill.
