Over coloured my hair :|

Mispinkprincess, 16 July, 2014 at 12:37 Posted on Planning 0 4

I've been colouring my hair most of my life at home (can't afford to pay hair dresser prices) recently I've been trying to colour it a more vibrant shade of red than it is (it's currently reddy brown) and the dye won't take. A quick google later and I've apparently 'over coloured my hair' and the only solution is to chop it all off!

Please tell ell me this isn't true! My hair colour isn't a bad one, it's dark red but I feel better when it's brighter (but not so bright i have to bleach it before colouring)

Is it not just that your hair's too dark to take the shade?

No it's a Lorial live colour for dark hair I've used them on darker hair before and had more of a result. It's my second brand I've tried Smiley amazing I did a strand test today and left it for ages and it took nothing

I have reddy-brown hair, I tried Olia's most vibrant red the other week, and it was crap! It hardly took!

What you need to use is special effects hair dye - IT IS AWESOME!

If you have long hair get 2 bottles. You can leave it in for hours and it won't wreck your hair Smiley smile

I used to use Special Effects when my hair was bright red, but I bleached first. My photo is probably still somewhere on Bee Unique and Hair Crazy's dye galleries in fact Smiley smile The problem I always had with it is that it stained like crazy. My hair didn't fade, but I had to have special separate towels and pillowcases, and if I touched my hair I would leave pink fingerprints on doors and surfaces. I couldn't even wear pale coloured nail varnish cos it would just turn pink!

It won't do anything if your current shade is darker than shade your applying. Same with vibrancy. If you put a lighter brighter red over a darker red it will do nothing. Tint does not lift tint.

Your hair is possibly over coloured but to correct this your need to go to a salon for the colour to be removed slightly and they can then try to apply more of a vibrant colour.

Have to to warn you though live xxl colours are a nightmare for us hairdressers, they rarely budge. I would advise you and everyone else not to use them

You also don't need to chop it all off lol
