***Panda2011 Rather Long & Mega Flashy Wedding Report!!***

panda2011, 28 September, 2011 at 17:07 Posted on Planning 0 47

I can't believe that it is all over & I am sat here as a Mrs finally writing my wedding report! The weeks in the run up to my wedding were fairly stressful. I had major concerns about the quality of food at the venue after our trial meal, I had back fat problems with my dress, a huge falling out with my FIL & my Chief Bridesmaid turned into a bridesmaidzilla which resulted in my not having a hen party.
2 weeks before the wedding, Poppy our dalmatian show *** came into season which then added extra stress because I had to take her to Melton Mowbray 3 times in the week - 10 days before the wedding to be mated - a 250 mile round trip each time! As she will be having a ground breaking litter which will be the first litter of dalmatians in Europe containing a special gene to prevent Uric Acid Stones (watch out for us on TV in the run up to Christmas!) I had no option but to put Poppy before the wedding. This was made more stressful by OH disappearing off to Jersey for a week for another friends wedding, leaving me to deal with wedding panics, dogs, 10 horses, our 19 month old son & OH's brother & nephew who I hadn't met before arriving from Australia. However, despite all the usual tearing out of hair everything came together & we had a fantastic day.
Are you sitting comfortably? Now we'll begin!
Sunday 4th September - OH arrived back from Jersey at 10pm to get an ear bashing from a rather stressed Panda. At this point I had so much to do it was getting silly. OH's brother & nephew who I had never met before were due to arrive from Australia at 1am, the house was still a tip, I still hadn't written the place cards, I had problems with the wrong size on a pair of flower girl shoes & couldn't get hold of the right size, the sweet table stuff wasn't ready & I hadn't bought the sweets, we didn't have a first dance song, I didn't have a wedding postbox or guest book, my dress still didn't fit, I hadn't got the stuff for the kids party bags etc etc etc
Monday 5th September - OH's brother & nephew were absolutely lovely! Having had 'issues' with some of OH's family I was very wary about having them to stay so close to the wedding as I was certain they were going to just add to the stress but I couldn't have been more wrong. We went shopping as my BIL wanted to get some things that you can get here but not in Aus & I spotted a lovely little pair of rose printed wellies that matched my theme perfectly & we actually had a really lovely day. BIL suggested he treat us to an Indian takeaway as he said he couldn't get such good curries in Aus but I suspect it was more a case of taking pressure off me so I didn't have to worry about cooking a big meal. We opened a bottle of wine & I actually chilled out for a few hours for the first time in weeks.
Tuesday 6th September - BIL & BIL's son left in the morning to go & stay with some other family in Wales and I made the 65 mile each way trip to Cheltenham from High Wycombe to have my final fitting. I was so nervous as some of you may remember me stressing about back fat problems. When I put the dress on I made sure I lifted it up 3 inches higher than the fitting lady wanted me to have it. It was perfect with almost no back fat at all. I nearly cried with relief at this point! We squeezed my dress into mums car & I then dashed off to the dentists for a check up & hygenists so my teeth were sparkly white. We went to the cash & carry & spent £100 on sweets for the sweet table. I managed to swap my flower girl shoes for the right ones in the right size in Monsoon. I managed to completely miss my last meeting with the florist as I just ran out of time which was a bit of an extra stress but my florist was wonderful & said that we could sort it all out over the phone instead.

Wednesday 7th September - I woke up with the most god-awful migraine. I was throwing up, had full visual disturbance & couldn't lift my head out of bed. I had to look after Sebbie as creche was still on it's summer break & I had people booked to look at my Haflinger pony which I want to sell. I managed to push the people who wanted to try Marco back from lunchtime to 4pm which gave me a couple of hours when Seb had a nap to try to sort myself out but I felt like absolute death warmed up & to cap it all, I had a cold sore appear!!!! I phoned the doctors & pleaded with them to give me some tablets for the cold sore (they were a little bit resistant). Some how I crawled down to the stables to show Marco off to some complete time wasters who took up 3 1/2 hours of my time (having arrived an hour late) in one of the most stressful weeks of my life before admitting that they didn't really know what sort of pony they were looking for. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
    Marco

Thursday 8th September - OH was off work as he needed to go to RAF Halton to collect our swords so I left Sebbie with him while I dashed into High Wycombe to find stuff for kids party bags & ribbon for decorating the sweet table with. I had a disasterous eyebrow threading which left me with slightly wonky eyebrows. I don't know High Wycombe that well as we have only lived here for a year & I couldn't find the shops that I wanted. I ended up having bit of a melt down in the middle of town blubbing down the phone to OH about not being able to find the f***ing party shop to buy some f***ing pink f***ing ribbon which earnt me some very concerned looks from passers by! I kept phoning OH who had google maps open & he was trying to direct me until my phone battery died which is when I resorted to a McDonalds & Thorntons which helped me get a grip again. I then spotted the party shop I had been looking for lurking on the top floor of an arcade where I had never been before. I then had to meet the farrier to have my horse shod & completely forgot that I still hadn't spoken to my wonderful florist so she phoned my mum & they sorted out everything between them & just told me what they had done. Sara at AquaFlorist at Cirencester is an absolute Angel!
In the afternoon/evening I took my two young horses to a dressage competition. My mum kept giving me stick as she thought I was being irresponsible because it was the first competition for both of them & neither of them are particularly quiet, easy horses but I felt I just needed time out away from weddings & have some 'me' time. It's one of the best things I could have done! Doing something you enjoy that requires complete focus & enables you to switch of from everything else that is going on is something all brides ought to schedule time for in the last few days. Yes, it added a bit more stress but I felt so much better for doing it & we came 2nd & 4th as well which was a real bonus!! I took the horses back to the stables & dashed home to meet my wonderful friend Vicky. I met her through my dog sitting business as i look after her two dalmatians. She was 24 weeks pregnant at this point but despite this, she came to my house to finish off my place cards which she wrote & decorated for me, decorated my sweet table stuff, made my Love is Sweet sign. She did so much to help it was unbelievable & I really do owe her. That's when you find out who your real friends are!!

Friday 9th September - the day before!!! By this point I was absolutely shattered but I got up very early as I wasn't sleeping due to worrying about wedding stuff. I went & said good bye to the horses as my friends were going to take over looking after them for a few days & I went & picked my test sheets up from the dressage venue the day before. OH went & picked our silver candelabra up from Air Command as they were needed the night before for a Battle of Britain Dining In night so we couldn't have them any earlier!
I spent the morning faffing & stressing, trying to pack everything for the wedding, Sebbie & the dogs into two cars when we could have done with about 10! I also had to drop the young lady off that I am carer for to her holiday carer who fills in when we are away so I finally left High Wycombeat about 2pm. I got to cheltenham for 4pm & promptly got attacked by my hair dresser who needed to put my hair extensions in & my make up lady who came to give me a pedicure & try to sort my nails out a bit which I had managed to break!
By this point I was starving as I hadn't had time to eat all day & was feeling a bit wobbly, I left my parents house at 8pm & headed to the hotel I was booked in to stay with. I mentioned at the hotel that it was the night before my wedding & they were wonderful! I was brought a beautiful 8oz filet steak with hand cut chips, onion rings & a side salad as room service while I chilled & had time just on my own for what the first time in weeks. I think it is probably the nicest meal I have ever eaten! My glass of house wine was just enough to make me sleep & I slept through until 7.30am apart from when I woke up in the night following an odd dream about Poppy having puppies crossed with a lurcher.

Saturday 10th September - THE BIG DAY! The lovely hotel manager called me at 7.30am to ask what I wanted for my breakfast. I decided I couldn't stomach a full english so they brought me a delicious fresh fruit salad & the most enormous muffin that I have ever seen! I had a leisurely shower & did my own mini facial which watching tv. I could easily have stayed their all day just relaxing & enjoying the peace & quiet which is something I don't get very often but I got to the venue for 9am & proceeded to unload the car & met the florist who was just doing the finishing touches. Bearing in mind I didn't really know what she was doing as I had missed our meetings I was so pleased with the end results. My pink roses really were beautiful & I'm convinced Sara at Aqua must have telepathy to know exactly what I wanted despite barely getting to speak to me!
At this point I got summoned by hair & make up as time was ticking by & we had a 12.30 ceremony booked! My bridemaids were already well on the way to being ready so my make up girl attacked me & the hotel brought breakfast up for us all - yes, I did manage a small second brekkie! We cracked open the bottle of champers my OH had thoughtfully sent for us while we were getting pampered. My flower girls arrived & I found out why the older flower girls mum had been such a pain about the length of the dresses - she never normally puts knickers on her 8 year old daughter!!! Fortunately as the dresses were so cheap off ebay I had bought two dresses for Lili & she ended up wearing one for a 9-10 year old to get the length (I gave the spare one to the younger flower girl to grow into & use as a party dress!).

We had a nightmare with make up. Because I had spent so much time running around unloading cars etc I had got quite warm & my foundation had to be redone 3 times!!!! It just wouldn't sit right & my poor make up lady was getting rather stressed about it. It wasn't perfect but it wasn't awful in the end so we just decided to live with it.

This meant that the hairdresser was running out of time to do my hair & she was still working on me when the hotel told me that the registrar was waiting to see me!!

My hair wasn't exactly the Kate Middleton look I had planned but there was no time to do anything about it, I wiggled into my dress while my mum & friend Jules (Poppy's breeder & mum to the younger flower girl) laced me up & the hair dresser stuck my tiara & veil on. We were all getting rather stressed at this point as the time had just run away from us & I still had to meet the registrar!

I had my registrar meeting & I could hear the music in the ceremony room was on it's second go round on the assembly CD but the registrar was very nice & clearly used to dealing with last minute panics.

Finally we were ready to walk down the aisle - we waited outside the room & realised the rings were still up in the hotel bedroom where we had got ready!!!! My bridesmaid ran up to the room (up about 6 flights of stairs) and back & attached the rings collars to the waiting dalmatians.

Horses, dogs, rabbits & son fed, son is now in bed so back to the report writing! Grab a glass of wine girls/gents ?

The CD was changed, Bryan Adams - Heaven came on & Dad & I started to walk down the aisle.
Dad is a very fast walker so I had to keep telling him to slow down as he was practically sprinting while I tried not to fall over my dress, my flower girls were practically running to keep up & as a result the bridesmaids pretty much got dragged by two over enthusiatic dalmatians!

We made down in one piece without anyone falling flat on their face & dad handed me over to Nick.

There was a comedy yelp as the bridesmaids sat down when Muppet (black spot!) had his paw stepped on which made everyone laugh. The dogs were amazingly well behaved through the ceremony & for the whole day.

Sebbie, out little boy stole the show in his mini Air Commodore uniform & proceeded to trot around the room while the ceremony was conducted until he decided he wanted Mummy cuddles during our page boys reading. This is one of my favourite moments of the day as I picked him up & he started to keep kissing my nose all through the reading - so cute!

I'm hopeless whenever I'm in any serious, important situations & kept wanting to giggle all through the ceremony. Mum said afterwards that she could see my shoulders shaking which is rather embarrasing! I had to keep biting my lip to stop myself from giggling so I'm pulling a rather weird face in some of the photos.

Sebbie as predicted screamed when OH kissed me at the end of the ceremony as he is going through a clingy phase when anyone else gets near me which caused a few more giggles from everybody. We got through the ceremony though & signed the register to Leona Lewis - Run & Seal - Kissed by a Rose.

The registrar was rather amused when I gave the wedding certificate to my dad to look after but I know what my OH is like for leaving his jacket lying around when he's had a drink!

We came out of the ceremony room & went through our RAF Sword Party arch which was fab! The raffers looked so smart in their uniforms & I think all the civvies loved to see something that is just a little bit unusual from a normal wedding.

We had enlisted one of the raffers to organise the group photos which were over in less that 20 minutes which left our guests free to mingle & have a glass of Bucks Fizz while we had yet more photos taken.

I was so chuffed that one of the black swans came to say hello when we were down by the lake! We walked for what seemed like miles around the grounds having various photos taken & despite having a very dodgy forecast, it stayed amazingly dry for us. We even had a few glimpses of sunshine which was lovely.

By this point it was time for the wedding breakfast. Apparently there were gasps when people entered the room as the tables looked so lovely. My only niggle was that the hotel had forgotten to put the mirrors under the candelabra & scatter the rose petals, also the mini love hearts where meant to be put 1 pack per person but to be honest if that is all that goes wrong on your day then it isn't too much to moan about!

I was so relieved that the actual wedding breakfast was much better quality than our trial meal. The pate was delicous & went down well with the 'farmers' table, the chicken wasn't dry, the sauces weren't too creamy & the pastry wasn't burnt on the apple flan! Everybody seemed to enjoy it & the kids were happy with their chicken nuggets. I had parents thanking me for the kids party bags as they all seemed to enjoy them & because I had put so many things in to entertain them quietly we had no problem with kids causing chaos despite a 3 hour wedding breakfast! My chief bridesmaid gave us a lovely pair of champagne flutes engraved with Bride & Groom which was a nice touch.

My mum did a short speech instead of my dad as dad really doesn't cope with public speaking. The Best Man's speech as I predicted was a bit rude & caused a few raised eyebrows amongst the older guests! OH's speech was surprisingly short & I was a little bit cross that he didn't make any reference to 'his beautiful wife' as grooms at most other weddings I've been to have done but he said afterwards that he followed the guidelines in an etiquette book which I had completely ignored as it seemed to have a few funny ideas!

After the wedding breakfast, OH & I went & chilled out in our room for 45 minutes which is when I gave him his book of my Boudoir Shoot photos & he gave me my gorgeous Tiffany Elsa Perretti open heart necklace which I love. We then went & mingled with our guests & the DJ was already playing! Our first dance was Extreme - More Than Words which caused a few people to shed a couple of tears. Apparently it looked very beautiful & no one wanted to spoil it by joining us on the dance floor which I was mortified by as 4 1/2 minutes is a very long time to be slow dancing with everyone watching you!

The DJ was fab as from about 9.30pm onwards he played loads of 90's dance classics which made me a very happy bride & there were loads of people making shapes on the dance floor.

Everybody seemed to love the sweet table & the hundreds of beautiful cupcakes that my mum had made & iced with a her neighbours help. Even people who weren't that into sweets took bags of them home for the grandkids which I thought was lovely. Unfortunately I can't find a pic of the sweet table at the moment as it was really lovely - I will track one down & upload later. The bacon butties proved very popular. The RAFers & Jersey crowd as predicted got rather merry & at one point there were 5 men streaking completely naked around the hotel grounds - fortunately it was dark so not too many people saw but we couldn't get any photos as it was so dark lol!!

Yes, that is the groom on the right!
You know it's been a good night when there are photos like this one on Facebook the day afterwards!

The night ended with the Scottish contingency (mainly RAF!) requesting the DJ to play Auld Lang Syn (or however you spell it!) while I took Poppy out for a late night walk around the 19 acres of hotel grounds. Poppy then proceeded to snuggle up on our four poster bed between OH & I all night - surely I must be the only bride ever who has shared her wedding bed with a rather fat dalmatian who kept trying to lick us all night?!

Sunday 11th September - I was so chuffed as when we went down to breakfast we were inundated with people saying they couldn't believe all the little touches we had done like the flip flops, the wedding favours with Unicef Candles which had a card stating we had made a Unicef donation, the personalised love hearts, our hand made heart soaps in the loos etc. It goes to show that people DO notice these little touches & everyone seemed to really appreciate them which after all the months of hard work was lovely!
All the flip flops in the flip flop basket apart from two pairs went. One thing I would definitely recommend is I bought a pair of ballet pump style slippers which were white with pink hearts on from Asda for a the princely sum of £5 thinking that if I got desperate I could swap into them. The proper ballet pumps I had bought for when my heels hurt too much pinched once my feet had swollen up so after the wedding breakfast I was wearing a pair of slippers under my dress all evening! When I can find it, I know someone did manage to sneak a little photo of this.
Also, I know we all want to wear our beautiful dresses which cost a fortune as long as possible but the one thing I would have done differently would be to have a back up dress for the evening. I'm not used to wearing something that is corsetted. By the time we got an hour into the evening reception I was finding it hard to breathe, eat & drink. I would have had far more fun if I had had a different dress to swap into that wasn't corsetted - and that is coming from someone who always said she was a die-hard wear my dress all night person!
Apologies for the dodgy font throughout this report - it was all copied & I couldn't work out how to get it back to normal. I hope you all enjoyed it even if it was slight over kill with photos! It really is amazing how one day that you have planned for months or years can cost so much & yet go by so quickly. We had such a wonderful day & I know I will remember so many little things from our day for the rest of my life which is what it is all about ?

Yep, Dumbleton Hall is fab. They are so professional there & really know weddings inside out. We had a few teething problems with the organisation side of things but on the day itself you really couldn't fault them which is when it matters most. So many of my guests were blown away by the venue as they came up that long drive way through the park land. It's beautiful.
