Panicked - positivity please!

ClaireKB, 6 May, 2013 at 19:51 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 16

So I need to lose a lot of weight for the wedding. I lost a fair bit last year, and made a resolution to start again when we got engaged in January. It's May, I've got 11 months and I'm bigger than ever. I think I'm too scared to start - I'm terrified if I go back to the gym I won't last five minutes and it'll be so embarrassing and put me off again. It feels like a monumental task; ideally I'd want to get down to the weight I was a few years ago when we met, but that's over five stone to shift! If anyone has any inspiration or positive stories I'd be ever so grateful. Otherwise I'm going to get to April next year and be too big to fit down the aisle!

Hi tuppence, I'm in a really similar position and still finding it hard to get motivated!

would you like to kick start it together? Motivate each other?

are you rejoining a diet plan or doing it alone? I'm building up the confidence to go to slimming world but my other half makes it most difficult to stick too! I totally understand the feeling embarrassed thing! Smiley smile

    where abouts are you based?x

Ooh, that sounds good, I could do with the motivation; I've ordered the 30 day shred dvd (I must be mad!) but I've since come down with a stinking cold so the exercise has had to be put on hold a bit longer. Mind you, I felt so rough yesterday I didn't eat so I'm chalking that up to a diet win ? I'm based in London.

    Hi ladies,

    Hope you reach your goal!

i lost a stone since xmas, with lots of little changes rather than a massive transformation into a gym bunny. The hairy bikers diet book is really good, taking a twenty minute walk at lunchtime really makes a difference and cutting down on booze helps...

You can do it! Don't be too hard on yourself or completely ban everything fun to eat, and try to find an activity you enjoy - I've been hula hooping!

The wedding is in three weeks now, and it has been quite a motivation. Now I just want to make sure not to pile it all back on during the honeymoon :-/

wishing you both lots of luck :-)

Wow not long to go until yours!! Are you off anywhere nice on honeymoon?! I'm still seeking inspiration in that department!

i joined slimming world on Thursday. Going okay so far, it seems to be about as you say, changing small habits and limiting the naughty stuff!

weddings not til January but I'm already looking forward to the meal ha Smiley smile

youll have to let me know about the 30day shred. I got the DVD a few months ago, not had it out yet I'm quite nervous about it!

I think I need to jump on board with this ASAP. I get married in four and a half months and need to lose 4 stone!! I don't know what it is but its almost like because I know I need to I subconsciously do the opposite!

I lost 33lbs at the start of last year using my fitness pal and the app on my phone but have since piled it back on. :/

Ladies, there is no magic bullet! It is fairly simple to understand, but difficult to do, to keep food in and energy out in some kind of balance. And if u want to get slimmer u have to eat less junk and do more exercise, there aint no other way. But it can be fun - i swear, a good salad and a long walk really rock. As does hula hooping :-)

So I started the 30 day shred two days ago - the actual workouts not too bad, particularly as its only twenty minutes, but I don't half ache! Too early to say if It's going to deliver amazing results but I'd recommend it as a kick start. Northeastbride- my other half makes dieting so hard to stick to as well, I really sympathise! I tried to get him to do the exercise DVD with me last night for motivation and when I looked over during the abs section he was lying on the floor chatting to the cat, and then he went off and made himself a pie for dinner while I had my tiny weight watchers soup. Grr./

Jensing, I know you're trying to help but it's coming across a bit patronising. We're not idiots, we know how to lose weight, there are other reasons why it's sometimes difficult to kick that process off.

    Hi tuppence

Have you thought of joining a weight loss club such as weight watchers? not only will you loose weight you will get support of other members and your leader. I have lost 4,1/2 stone and have a stone to go and my wedding is in July next year so following the weight watcher plan is so easy and will fit around your life style

    good luck?

Made the first step and joined slimming world and lost 4pounds in the first week!

Tuppence, I also made 2 meals for the other half, he said they were Delish until I told Him they were diet meals haha! Meh eh! To be fair, talking to the cat sounds more appealing than doing abs!! Have you lost any weight doing the DVD yet?!

i have to lose before January, wish I hadn't booked a winter wedding now!! You will do great by April Smiley smile plenty of time! Where abouts in the country are you? Smiley smile

    Hi everyone

I specialise in helping brides-to-be look and feel great for their wedding and I want to say don't panic!

    You can do this.

Start off by writing your goal and when you want to achieve it. Then you can break it down into small achievable steps so you don't feel overwhelmed.

Start doing exercise that you enjoy. I love the 30 day shred, but if you're too scared to do it then you're going to have a battle with yourself when you need to be doing exercise. Try something new if you don't know what you like doing!

In terms of eating, calorie controlled diets only work in the short-term. You need to change your mindset and stop eating processed foods and sugar. In my opinion The Harcombe Diet is the best one out there as it teaches you how to eat healthy meals and it combats any cravings or addictions you probably have.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions please get in touch.

Lol, I made a meat free chilli the other day and my other half was wolfing it down until I mentioned it was all mushrooms and kidney beans! Congrats on the 4lbs, thats amazing in a week!

Jensing - I agree on the hairy dieters book, it's been a godsend in persuading OH into eating something that isn't 100% fat. The potato wedges recipe is brilliant, it tricks him into thinking he's having proper chips when they're stilll low fat.

I'm not sure if I've lost weight doing the dvd because I stupidly didn't weigh myself first, but I'm definitely more toned - I've got two work skirts I was struggling to fit into and they are fitting fine now! Very impressed, although I did undo some of my good work with some wine after work last night ? But I didn't pig out when I got home, so I am trying! I'm in London, I assume you're based in the northeast? ?

Minor breakthrough this morning; my ankle was painful (old injury) but I strapped it up with an ankle bandage and carried on with 30 day shred anyway ? Obviously I'm not going to carry on if it's going to get too painful, but normally I'd have used any excuse to stop exercising. Very surprised at myself!

my wedding is 28 June and I've just reached my target weight! Pick my dress up on Saturday and can't wait.... I followed a Juice Plus plan.... It was amazing.... Quick results which helped with keeping me motivated and due to the pure fruit and vegetable blend capsules you take I felt full of energy which helped with exercise and also cleared up my skin and and made my hair strong and glowing.....I feel like a million dollars compared to a few months ago when I was just stressing about figure and dress etc....

The network support is amazing constant motivation and inspiration which really helps to keep you on track.... Lots of fun and chats with other girls who are all on the same plan and changes to lifestyle.... Swapping recipe ideas and exercise tips..... It's initially A 4 week plan which you then either extend or change to a maintenance plan. 2 shakes and one main meal.... Lots if nutrition though and no going hungry!

If anyone wants further information just message me.....

    Hey!

I have just joined this website & have been reading you weight lose comments, I must say it is such a releif to know that other brides are going through the same weight issues as myself. I am getting Married in Mexico Next April & I really want to be able to lose 2 stone because at the moment I don't feel I am going to be a very beautiful + I am dreading wearing my bikini in front of friends and family!!

I can completely understand how you are feeling tuppence, the gym can be a daunting thing, I too started going to the gym & it lasted for about 2 months and I got bored. I have found that aerobics or Boo yaka are really fun & the women in my classes are really friendly & all different shapes & sizes which makes you feel more comfortable.. maybe try a class.

I have started going for walks in my lunch breaks at work instead of sitting at my desk, I am trying to cut down on my snacking (crisps etc) & have cut out potatoes & pasta but I just don't feel like this is working. Congratulations to you ladies who have managed to start losing some pounds... you should be very proud of yourselves :-)

I have never heard of this Shred DVD, just searched for it on amazon... Do you think this could help me?

    Hey!

I know exactly how you feel! I got engaged in December and was at my biggest weight, I had lost 3 stone and put it all and more back on the year before.

I have been on my diet for 7 months now with 1/2 months slipped off the diet around March and I am currently 3 lbs off losing 5 stone. when I write this I can't actually belive it as I was one of those people who never excersied hated the gym and ate what ever I wanted.

I knew I had to loose weight for me to be happy on my wedding day and not hate every picture that was taken so I started to imagine myself where i wanted to be, I joined the gym and started by taking some classes that I enjoyed and I can honestly say once the weight started comming off I really enjoyed going to the gym as I really felt that every gym session made a difference. ( don't get me wrong I am not a fan of the actual getting my arse off the sofa and doing the workout) but I love the feeling that you have after. One tip that I think motivated me was buyinf a Solar heart rate monitor which calculates how many calories that you are burning, when I feel like stopping after 10 minutes I see that I have already burnt 100 calories and it pushes me to keep going.

Don't be oncious of what people think of you at the gym as I was so painfully shy and self concious to start with, and still am but I kept looking at pictures of beautiful wedding dresses and imagining buying one and eventually I didn't care what other people thought!

I hope this rant helps a little, I really found when I posted a message a few months ago the reponces really helped me get going.

Remeber to set your self small goals, like after 10lbs i will buy myself some new shoes and then after 1 stone a bag etc and don't get to hung up on your total goal as it will seem so unreachable at the moment but I promise it is not and slowly yu will see the changes and it makes it all worht while!
