Paracetamol for a cold - what does it do?

Chocolate Button, 17 December, 2008 at 15:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

May sound like a stupid Q but apart from pain relief what can paracetamol do for a cold?

I think it brings any fever down, so helps with any shivery feelings. I always get headaches with a cold so it helps with that, too.

You'll still get the sore throat and bunged up nose - although my midwife suggested gargling with soluble paracetamol for a sore throat. Steam inhalation can help if you're bunged up.

I'm actually feelling less feverish today and have less of a sore throat and head ache so i assume I am actually getting over the illness side of flu - yaaaaaaaaay!!!!!! But I do still have a slightly bunged up nose and slightly sore throat with a chest infection(got antibiotics this morning) but I know paracetamol isn't any good for the chest infection and as I am in less pain was thinking about stopping the paracetamol if there are now no more benefits for me from it. I just still feel so lethargic, I nearly fell asleep in the chemist while I was waiting for my antibiotics!! ?

Think I can soothe the throat with lots of cups of hot honey and lemon, and the nose will hopefully clear soon.
