Parking issues in street

KTD, 3 December, 2008 at 10:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Just looking to rant and maybe get some advice . . .

We own one car and the unwritten rule is you park outside your own property. One side neighbours dont have a car so I always park with the nose of the car over onto their side so I can get through our gate. The other side have 3 cars and park them across from our house and in front of their own.

Another car has appeared from somewhere and I have to do a manoeuvre (sp) to park. You have to go right against the fence to allow passing cars but it means I can't get in our gate (I am 17 weeks pregnant with twins so I have a big bump already) but what it going to happen when I need to get babies/buggies etc through?! I have to lift shopping etc over the fence and then squeeeeze through.

I know it seems silly (and maybe feels worse becuase of pregnancy) but I can't get access to our house! I don't want to take the fence down to make a driveway because we have a proper gate etc which we will need when the twins are older. And it is a terraced street so if I want to use the front door then I have to walk the length of the street (front side is a pavement only - no cars)

I was thinking of putting a sign on our gate saying 'please keep clear - access required' or something. I dont want to make a fuss but it is stressing me out!

A sign looks petty and most likely will be ignored as such - just talk to your neighbours and explain.

If the cars are legally parked then I don't see how you can put a sign up and expect anyone to take heed (sp?)

I think you need to explain to them, personally i think a sign looks like you are being a bit snooty.

When you say you have to go right against your fence, do you mean you are parking on the pavement?? If so, can't you find somewhere else to park and report anyone else who does the same.
