Passport. Check and send? Or Special Delivery?

Ali_G, 14 August, 2012 at 09:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

Tell me to stop being such a tight cow and just pay the £8.95 to check and send at the post office.

I need to send my passport off to get it changed into my married name. But really? £8.95? What do they do that's going to cost that much?

Is sending it special delivery secure enough? I can't risk not having my passport. I should just stop being so tight, shouldn't I?

They should also be checking that the paperwork is completed correctly and that the photos are compliant.

Prevents the passport office rejecting it!

I sent mine via check and send.

I always do check and send. You're only saying a couple of quid anyway as Special Delivery is about £6.50 now.

Nothing has changed on my passport, apart from the name.

I had to get new photos done. Not even exaggerating, I look EXACTLY the same as in my current pasport picture (it was only renewed 2 years ago).

I was tight and didn't do the check and send but I did send mine off by special delivery. It's been over 3 weeks now *twiddles her thumbs* but I've noticed that the passport office have debited money from my bank account so it should be ok *crosses fingers*

Eeeek, I go on honeymoon 8 weeks today. That will be enough time to send it off and get it back, right?

Pay it. H sent off for his renewal and he got a letter last week to say he needed to send more photos as the ones sent orginially were creased!

It's the busy period now and it should take 3-4 weeks - that's what the post office said to me and it says that some where on the passport website too. I need mine back within the next 2 weeks because we've booked our honeymoon #2 for the end of the year and the travel agent needs my passport number asap to book internal flights.

In that case I'd defineitely be doing check and send. As I said earlierits a couple of quid difference anyway. My cousin sent her son's first application off 4 weeks ago, giong away in 5 weeks and it's not even logged in the system yet.
