Passport & Married Name Question!

babybirdandmouse, 7 March, 2011 at 19:32 Posted on Planning 0 1

I've lost my passport and needed it to give notice last month. The house has been searched from top to bottom and I cannot find the darn thing anywhere! I've had a look on the Direct Gov website about passports and for a replacement it is £77.50 for a 10 year passport, but I would need to get another one next year with my married name as I don't really want to keep booking holidays in my maiden name for the next 10 years!! On the website it says that if you are getting married in the near future to have the passport in your married name. Our honeymoon is booked in my maiden name so I just need to pay a £35 fee to get that changed. My question is can I use my new passport to give notice bearing in mind it will have my married surname not my maiden name?? I've tried calling them today but I can never get through!

I was just wondering if any other bride to be's have had this same (or similar) issue!

If you don't have a passport, I believe you can use your birth certificate plus one other form of photo ID (e.g. driver's license) instead. Might that be a better option for you? Check the website or ring your local register office to double check.

ETA: I mean you can use birth cert + photo ID to give notice, obviously Smiley smile then get passport in married name for future use, and change name on travel docs for honeymoon.

You can only apply three months before the wedding day for a passport in your married name.

I sent mine off the other day! Had to sign my married name which was a bit wierd...

Anyway! You need your vicar/officiant to complete a form to say you are due to be married on X date and that they will notify them if the wedding doesn't go ahead.

I havent done the whole giving notice thing as I'm getting married in a church so dont know about using your new passport but I would assume not as it is postdated to your wedding day so it technically wouldnt be a valid passport until you are married iykwim?
