Passport name change Issues - any advice?

Wifeysoontobe, 9 November, 2010 at 11:40 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 4

Hi All,

I am getting married next July 2011 and am going on holiday with the family in Portugal next September. My auntie who is organising it all has booked my plane ticket in my maiden name and says as long as my passport matches the plane ticket I'll be able to travel. My H2B disagrees with this, and says Portugal in particular are very up on their security what with the terroism threats happening and is afraid I won't be able to fly!

Can anyone help? My auntie has already booked the ticket in my name already as didn't have chance to think - so I'd probably have to pay to have it changed. She's been on holiday to all sorts of places ( I haven't) so is usually pretty savvy with these things. She mentioned that my cousin who got married August this year, is travelling abroad next year and is still using her old passport with her maiden name as doesn't want to renew before it expires (surely this is wrong, I don't agree with this at all!!)

Please help! x

Your aunt is correct. As long as the tickets match your passport then it's fine.

Agreed, i didn't change until after the honeymoon, it was just easier to have my passport, driving licence and credit cards all matching and most don't let you change until afterwards.

I am going to be Mrs Henderson for a long time so a couple more weeks doesn't hurt ?

I agree it should be fine, they wouldn't necessarily know that you were married so they won't know that the name on your paspsort is your maiden name, and even if they do, you could have elected to keep that name,

Completely aside, and very cheeky - it might be worth taking your wedding certificate and presenting it to the hotel and potentially emailling in advance and saying your on a late honeymoon (as the hol is quite close to the wedding), they might give you some freebies!
