Passports and married name

EmmaM88, 21 April, 2013 at 19:57 Posted on Planning 0 7

This is a long way off yet but whilst it has been in my head I need to get it down

My passport runs out the 28th July 2014 but we are getting married on the 12th July 2014. So in theory I can't travel on my passport for the honeymoon as there will be less than two weeks left on it. I know you can renew your passport 9 months before it expires, however I do not want to be paying for a new passport twice one in either name. Is there anyway of renewing it in my married name before even being married? If so how long can you do it beforehand?

Hi. Yes you can change your name before you get married - I just have. Just download the form on the government passport website and get your vicar or registrar to sign and complete it. You have to pay as if it was a new passport anyway and you have to supply new pics too. You can do it from 3 months before but do it early just in case! Usually takes 3 weeks. It's weird receiving it back with your new name tho! ;-)

I think it's so many weeks before but it won't become valid until your wedding day in your new name, you have to book your honeymoon in your new name too. Only problem with this is if you plan to go abroad for your hen do as you won't have a valid passport for a bit.

Ah so you can do it then! I wasn't sure you were allowed to do it!

No hen do's abroad, not having one anyway so won't be an issue

You can do it 3 months before your wedding day, there a form that whoever taking you wedding has to fill out and sign then you get passport in married name but won't be vaid to wedding date, also remember to book honeymoon in your new name or you won't be able to trevel.

My passport ran out in March this year and I am getting married in 3 weeks 11th May. You can get a honeymoon passport. You have to get the vicar or registrar to sign a form that you get from the Post Office, to declare that they are marrying you. The passport is not valid until your wedding day. You can order the passport 3 monsth in advance of your wedding.

I just received my passport in my married name this week, Im getting married in June... it was very straight forward to do... as everyone else has said previously.

You can download the form from the internet & get it completed by person marrying you and send off... v simple.

    Hope this helps
