Passports and name changes

loonymoon, 9 October, 2011 at 20:08 Posted on Planning 0 2

We're probably going on our main honeymoon next year perhaps Feb or March. However because my passport only has just over a year left on it I thought I'd leave the name change on it until it's due for renewal anyway. However I'm worried that this might cause problems if I change my name elsewhere??

Any thoughts? Will they still let me use my passport in my old name when I've changed most other things (credit cards etc) to my new name?

Shouldn't be a problem. One of my friends got married over two years ago and hasn't changed the name on her passport yet but uses her married name on everything else. My passport is only a year old so I won't be changing mine straight away.

My administrator at work has only just changed her passport despite the fact she has been married for nearly 10 years - she only got her first passport to go on honeymoon. The only problem you may have is where you are going on honeymoon if they are strict about only married couples staying in their hotels and you need to have the same name - your travel agent will be able to advise. The other thing to remember is that you can change your passport up to 6 months before the expiry date and they add on the remaining time to the 10 years. You just need a letter or something from the registrar to confirm your intention to get wed

Thanks All, think I'll be OK then in that case.
