Pear shaped and worried

eireannach, 4 September, 2012 at 21:55 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi ladies,

I'm having a minor crisis ? I love the Maggie Sottero Bernadette dress but I'm pear shaped and worried it won't look right. I've yet to try it on but have tried on another dress by another designer which is very similar. I loved it when I tried it on but in my minds eye I'm now worrying that it's not the right dress for a pear shape. So my question is......are there any pear shaped ladies out there that have worn this dress?? I guess I'm looking for reassurance, but would love some honest feedback.

Im a uk 14 on top and 16 on the hips, but do intend to drop at least a size before the big day.

Thanks all!!

I havent seen that particular dress, but did have a Maggie Sottero. I found her designs very flattering for a female figure.

Generally an empire line dress that falls from just under the bust is flattering for a pear shape is its not clingy over the hips & buttocks. Unless you try the dress on, you wont know how it will look. Keep an open mind though on trying on different styles though as that dress is very fitted on the bottom half.

I'm a 10-12 on top and 14-16 on the bottom, pear shaped is my middle name.

I'll be honest and say I'm not convinced that dress will flatter a pear but I could be wrong

What I thought I would like and would suit me is very different to what I now prefer. Originally I thought I wanted something like this...

    But I'm probably getting this...

    Hi ladies,

Thanks for all the comments. I have tried on about 15 other dresses and haven't left out any styles, even the ones I didn't like on the hanger! When I tried on the dress that's similar to the Bernadette dress I loved the look of it, but didn't really pay attention to the way it sat on me and my shape. My mam and 2 BMs liked it too, but I wonder were they being kind not to mention my bottom ?

I'm trying on the Bernadette dress in 2 weeks and will have 3 other ladies with me so I'll be paying close attention to how it sits. Hopefully they'll speak up too if it doesn't suit. I'm still going to try on other styles, but will have my fingers crossed on this one!

PS Those 2 dresses are beautiful!

I think you'll need to get some photos of you in it and flash on here for honest opinions. In all honesty, I wouldn't have thought that style would suit a pear shape.

When I first started the hunt, I was a 10 on top and a 14 on the bottom. I thought I'd either need a very A-line dress (which wouldn't have been practical to take abroad) or an empire line. In the end, the dress I got was very fitted. It was too small when I first tried it on (I bought a sample) but I could tell even at the time that once I lost the weight it'd fit. It had a lot of detail at the top and not much at the bottom which drew attention upwards, rather than towards my hips.
