I've heard of it. I wouldn't pay any attention to it if I were you - you obviously think it's nonsense anyway!

There's superstitions for everything it seems. Ignore them and wear/do what you want.

I adore pearls!! Lucky really seeing as I make jewellery with them most days!

Found this is the traditions and symbols part of hitched

To some, pearls represent future tears and are a bad sign. However, to others, the wearing of pearls takes the place of the bride's real tears, thus she'll have a happy, tear-free wedded life.

Another Old Wives Tale! I think most Brides have pearls of some kind. My Mum wore pearls & celebrated 48yrs of Marriage last month.

I wore pearls in my tiara, calla lillies which are meant to be bad luck and funeral flowers and my dress had opal coloured beads which is also bad luck so I'm totally stuffed!

    Ignore the superstitions!

Pearls are extremely popular again with brides in the last 2 years where they were out of favour before that, I think I like the version of the superstition quoted though. Opals aren't supposed to be unlucky if they are your birtstone Smiley laugh

Mrs B - Opals are only bad luck if not your birthstone.

If Pearls are that unlucky then why is a 30th Wedding Anniversary "Pearl"?? Surely you wouldn't get that far!!

I remember years ago hearing that a teardrop shaped pearls were bad luck as they were reminiscent of actual tears but I think this is all a load of baloney!!!! I love pearls on brides, they are classic, elegant and timeless.

How can a pure pearl be bad luck! Wear whatever you want and don't let silly superstitions cloud your judgement.
