Peckforton Castle - reviews please

Heather W, 17 September, 2008 at 09:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Hi

A friend is thinking about Peckforton Castle for her wedding - I know there have been horror stories in the past but is it now sorted and have the weddings been good there now the new owner has got it sorted??

Any comments - good and bad would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Heather

I went to a wedding there 3 and a half years ago. It was a shambles from the moment the bride checked in. All purely down to bad management though, so maybe it is better now it has new owners. I hope so because it is a stunning building and could be a dream venue if the problems have been sorted.

Sorry, not much help there really.

We went for a wedding about 4 years ago. I didn't rate it. It was pretty enough, but it struck me as furcoat, no knickers. We were standing about a lot (I was pregnant at the time, so this wasn't great). The food was average, and the bedroom smelt damp.

The wedding we went to, her father gave the most hideous, arseclenchingly bad FOB speech I have ever ever heard. My sphincter was in spasm by the time it finally ended. It was a 15 minute power point of J's youth and basically hammered home the point that she was a) ugly b) man-mad and c) utterly desperate, thank god A finally took her off our hands.

Awful. And they think they are REALLY classy. ?

Poor bride. there's nothing that makes you want to crawl under the table like this... except perhaps the groom using his speech to verbally flagellate his mother... perhaps someone should put a notice on planning to warn them that this is *not* the time.

I went to see it with a client who had booked it for their wedding (actually I say client, they ended up marrying abroad) and I wasn't impressed. It also turned out that they had been lied to by the venue and ended up losing a £4.5k deposit as a result. There are far nicer castles/venues. The only room I really liked was the underground bar, which I thought looked fabulous at night and would make for a good "after party", other than that it did nothing for me. I liked the new owner but I thought my client had been treated very badly!
