People who laugh a lot

Cherry_Valance, 19 February, 2009 at 13:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 66

Does anyone else assume that people who laugh a lot are a little bit, erm, dim?! Or am I just a sour faced cow?

The only person I've ever mentioned this to before was Mr CV - we both seem to laugh (and despair) at the same sort of things and he admitted that he too assumes that people who are easily amused aren't the sharpest tools in the box!

I don't *think* I'm sour faced, I love when something makes me laugh, but I just never find things like the endless forward emails that have people in my office literally hysterical amusing or clever.

I assume you're referring to different types of comedy rather than in general? I don't agree with what you're saying - I think people have different tastes in what makes them laugh. I certainly laugh A LOT in life but there are certain comedies that don't make me laugh because they're not to my taste.

I grew up with a girl who used to laugh all the time, but she had such an infectious chuckle and it was really quite endearing.

I suppose some people naturally see the funny side of most things.

I don't think laughing at things has anything at all to do with intelligence ?

I'll happily laugh at the stupidest things if I find them funny. I don't think I'm all that dim ?

People that laugh a lot are a bit dim?

That's one of the most ridiculous, and wanky, things I've ever heard. I'd be far more likely to think you were dim for judging others on how much they laugh, quite frankly.

Is it wrong (am I dim) that I'm now laughing at Hole's comment?

Please, never come out with the two of us. You'd hate it.

i'm one of those people. i find the most mundane thing ridiculous

i love laughing, and if that makes me dim so be it. ? (<---see?)

edited to add...although conversely i can sit through what is allegedly a hilarious thing without cracking my face. catherine tate being an example of such a thing.

? Don't hold back now, Holio.

CherryValance, I might be wrong but I'm assuming that you think people who have the same kind of humour as you must be of an equal intelligence? I'm guessing that you're judging people's intelligence by the stuff they laugh at.

One of my best friends and her entire family find farting hilarious. If someone farts, they all fall about laughing. They love fart jokes and anything fart related. I don't find that funny at all really. The only real time I find farting funny is when someone does it in my company, and then pretends it didn't happen. However, I don't think my friend is dim because she finds it funny, nor of a lower intelligence than me.

I love laughing. I'd prefer to think it's because I know a lot of fabulously witty people. ?

Seriously though, the people I choose to spend my time with make me laugh all the time and we have fun together. That's why I choose to spend time with them!

I laugh easily and for sustained periods. Am I dim? Happy to go head-to-head, CV-wise, any day of the week.

Sorry - completely agree with Hole in every sense.

I think I agree with the majoritty here. In fact, thinking about it, I would say the opposite is more likely to be true.

Maybe people who don't laugh very much are the dim ones because they're not getting the jokes... ?

Yay ot Ostrich coming to laugh with us dimwits, as long as you're not laughing at us being dim?

To disprove your theory further, my Dad laughs so much. He tells the most terrible jokes that he laughs at while he is telling them, he laughs at stupid programs, books, anything really. He is a university professor and v.highly regarded in his field with some obscenely high IQ so most certainly not dim (can you tell I love my Dad!!)

Ah, but you've not heard me laugh yet. Whenever I laugh with my sister, she dons a pretend machine gun and reckons that's how I sound.

I love laughing, but takes quite a lot to get me going - usually the company of good friends and an 'in joke'.

My H laughs loudly and uproariously (sp?) at dogs pooing and You've been framed.

I know some people who laugh a lot, to cover the fact they are nervous or shy.

I don't think it has anything to do with intelligence at all. Some of dimmest people I know hardly laugh at all...

Sadly I don't have 2 sheds or it could have been his sister too.

    I'm laughing again now.

You two were too dim to realise I was trying to have a serious discussion about the perils of having neighbours who have both children and chickens so laughed. See theory proved.
