People who wear glasses.....

RuthG, 22 July, 2008 at 11:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 23

I'm a relatively new glasses wearer, so i'm not sure if this is normal or not. I can't wear my glasses and eat and the same time, is that just me?

    sorry but ?

wht not? is it because they slide off? If so you may need to get them tightened to they stay on...

I can't either but then that is because I am short sighted and if I try and do anything close up with my glasses on then I feel a bit odd and things go a little fuzzy ?

No, they don't slide off, they're tight enough. It just really annoys me. I guess I'm just not used to them yet.... or I'm odd.

If I didn't wear my glasses while eating, I'd get food all over my face as I wouldn't be able to see what I was doing ?

You'll get used to them ? - are you are full or part time wearer?

Part timer, I'm supposed to wear then for everything but reading, writing and being on the computer.

is that just an indirect way of saying I'm odd? ?

If only I felt like this lol.

If I did I'd superglue my glasses to my ears and nose.

I've never had that problem, but I do find it hard to reverse when driving when wearing my glasses, as I find it odd when I change where I am looking and flit between looking through my glasses and looking without them.

Ive never thought about taking my glasses off to either eat or go too the toilet. What is the reasoning behind that? Just curious.

I've given my reasoning above ? - being short sighted means close up things like eating go all funny. It makes me feel drunk.

    Hey,

I have this issue too Ruth so don't worry, either that or we are just both oddies!!, If I eat with them on I feel like I'm putting my food up my nose but then end up dropping it on my lap as I was actually no where near my face! ?

I'm the same. i only wear them when walking or meeting people (recently I forgot mine when I was meeting a friend I've known 8 years. i had to tell her exactly where I would be otherwise I won't be able to see her. I hate walking into pubs glassless, i'd never find anyone and have to go home)

How can you lot see to eat without your glasses on?! You're all nuts ? I wouldn't be able to see what was on the plate!

The only reason I take my glasses off (briefly) when I eat is if the food is very hot and it steams up my specs! Other than that, I wear them pretty much 24/7 except when I'm going out and then I rely on my friends/H not to let me walk into the gents or wander off without them!! I admit it, I'm vain! ?

Oh and I don't wear them in the gym so I always make sure I stand at the front of the class.

CBH I'm amazed! How can you see?? Are you not very short-sighted? I don't think I could find my way out of the house without mine - I have a pair of glasses in the bedside table - my 'finding my glasses glasses' - if I put them down and can't find them I'm stuffed so I have these spare for this purpose!

I have to wear mine when I go out as I wouldn't be able to see the faces of the people I'm talking to. My prescription isn't all that strong either (-2.75 and -3.50).

I'm a fully paid up member of the short sighted club (-6.75 and -7 ) and there's no way I could eat without my glasses on (or lenses in).

And sympathies with Svensk - if I'm in the shower in the morning and OH wants to ask me something, he has to come to right up to me and SHOUT. It amazes me how much of hearing is reliant upon being able to read the lips of the person speaking.

My OH used to take his glasses off to eat when we first started seeing each other, at that point he'd only been a glasses-wearer for about 6 months - but he got sick of me laughing at him every time he did it so he had to practise eating with them on and just keeps them on all the time now

I can't!! I mean I can't see people's faces at a distance, I wouldn't be able to read a menu on a wall or a TV at a distance but, as I said, I'm vain! I wear them 95% of the time - it's literally only when I'm out in the evening and I don't want to wear them so a party, going out for dinner, clubbing, that sort of thing. The rest of the time I wear them - driving, walking, shopping, cinema, work - you name it. I have astigmatism so I can't see close up and I can't see far away but am OK in the middle I guess! ?
