People with Sky HD

Bumble_Bee, 2 July, 2008 at 10:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

We have had Sky HD now for just over 2 months and we keep having issues with our box, I was wondering if anyone else is having or had similar problems.

It will not record a HD programme and a non HD programme at the same time (when watching something through the planner/anytime) it just says failed technical error. This is not all the time when recording but probably 1 in every 5 times.

It has complete power cuts at random times throughout the day and then will not reboot for about 5 minutes. This happened twice on Saturday during Doctor Who - Mr Bumble Bee was not impressed to say the least !

And its very noisy compared to our old regular Sky+ box, like the fan is on constantly even though its on its own stand alone shelf . We had our old sky+ box for 2 years and never had 1 problem and seems like nothing but bother with this box and its cost us over £200.

We didn't take up any insurance with the box from sky , so i'm thinking they have given us a dodgy box knowing it will break and then we will have to buy another one.

(ps. sorry for non spacing but i dont know how the new hitched works)

Our Sky HD box was fine to start with but recently it won't let us record something and watch another channel at the same time. Our Sky engineer blokey came back and did some housekeeping on it but it's not really solved the problem. So he's taken the box away and i think is coming back with another one.

In the meantime we've gone back to using our old Sky plus box and to be honest i don't notice any difference between that and HD. Mr Dooby says he does but i really can't see it. Also sky plus is cheaper than HD so i'm trying to convince him to stick as we are but i'm not sure i'm going to win him round.

Oh yes, i've just remembered ours does that as well and it wont let you record a programme that has already started.

You cannot see a difference ? really ? I admit on some programmes there is little quality difference but we watch sports alot on Rush HD now that is amazing !

Did you get charged for the engineer visit ? There is definately something wrong with the box.

Nope to me it all looks the same (mind you that probably has more to do with my eyesight or our telly than the box).

Haven't been charged for the visit yet and hopefully they will swap our box for one that works properly.

We have HD and we don't have any problems, we bought the box from fleabay and fitted ourselves. I know my FIL has problems, I think he gets the problem of it switching off randomly.

If you bought the box from Sky I think you get a certain amount of time before you are charged for visits, but maybe I have that wrong. Have you spoken to Sky as they can often sort things out over the phone.
