perfect dress?

mrs2be13, 20 August, 2011 at 23:50 Posted on Planning 0 12

I've been searching like mad for my perfect wedding gown but I can't find anything I like ! And if I find something I remotely like its from a random website not based in england. I feel nervous about parting with money on something like my dress when I can't see it in person or try it before purchase. Does anyone have any information about long lace dresses with 3/4 length sleeves ? Thanks xx

My advice when it comes to buying a dress from, say, China would be avoid avoid avoid! The pictures are just taken from designers' websites, and the dresses are made with cheap material and poor quality workmanship - I speak from experience! There will be some who have had a half decent dress from China but for every one that comes out good, you will find 3 that haven't! Its too much of a gamble if you ask me. Plus, if you haven;t tried the dress on, you wont know what its like on - the dresses look very different on real people! The best advice I can give is to just go to a few bridal shops and try on the dresses. If money is the issue, you can always try and source a second hand dress from ebay or preloved or you can try and buy from a sample sale x

Have you thought about going to a dress maker and having it designed & made to your spec? that way you get exactly what you want. depends on your budget of course... i have no idea how much it is for a custom made dress. saying that some ladies on here have had dresses from china & have been very happy with them. if you want full lace though its gotta be top quality or youll look like a granny net curtain ?

No I haven't been in any dress shops yet I was wanting to look at styles on the internet so I had an idea of what I liked. Yeh I had also considered getting a dress made but was unsure on prices. Hopefully I will find something I like (even tjo I've got ages yet!) Xx

I would defo go and try a few on as you may be able to take ideas you like from each dress, plus i went in with an idea saying i want a lace gown, strapless and loads of details and came out with the complete opposite as when i tried the dresses on i didnt like them

Absolutely look online for ideas but the only way you're going to find something is by trying them on and figuring out what suits you, what feels good on etc.

No harm in making some enquiries about getting a dress made too.

You say you want lace though which means your dress is unlikely to be cheap whichever path you go down.

What kind of budget do you have in mind? When is your wedding?

Wedding is April 2013 so a while off yet and budget not sure... the budget for dress can be flexible depending on what I find although I would like to go for less than 1000£ most of the dresses online appear similar just strapless with different skirt. I want to avoid strapless at every cost as I never wear strapless it doesn't suit me and I don't feel comfortable. Defiantly been dreaming of a dress with 1/2 to 3/4 length sleeves with lace although it would have to be all lace. Have to start looking in shops xx

I would go to lots of shops and try everything on, and i mean EVERYTHING. Believe it or not, I was made to try on a dress that I hated the look of, and once it wa son, I knew it was THE ONE. By trying them on you will see what suits you and find a style to work with, its the best way Smiley smile

Have you been to try dresses on?

I had an idea of what I wanted stuck in my head, and when i tried it on it looked silly. I really wanted lace over silk with straps or sleeves. I also thought most dresses were just white strapless with different skirts and varying amounts of sparkly stuff that I hated. I've ended up with something completely different to what I wanted and is actually a dress I dismissed as just being another sparkly strapless dress with a puffy skirt, then the woman made me put it on and i fell in love!
