Personal question about bra sizes....

moonpie1985, 5 February, 2012 at 21:14 Posted on Planning 0 41

Please answer if you don't mind sharing... (i understand it is a very personal question)

I was just wondering if you could post up what size top you where, and what back size you where for bras.

For instance, I wear a size 12 top, but wear a size 36 bra. I have been told that this is far too large for someone of my size, but any size 34 bras I have tried on have been tight and uncomfortable.

I have now decided to take the risk and order my wedding bra in a 34 back size as it will be strapless, and I am hoping that it will give more support. I am just worried that it will be way too tight and uncomfortable for me all day long.

I am a 12 and until i went to try on wedding dresses was wearing a 36! The woman measured me and told me i should wear a 32, but to be honest i went out and got 34's which feel a bit tight so i think ill stick to a 34 i think a 32 would show off more 'back fit' if they were too tight.

    Sounds just like me!

Going from a 36 to a 32 just sounds painful though!

    Fingers crossed for the 34's

It depends on your shape so you can't just go by your top size. I know you should be able to get about two fingers up the back of the strap but if you can pull it out and its loose then its too big. Woman in bra shop also said you should sit on middle clasp. I used to wear 34 then was measured properly at 32 and its tight at first as you are not used to it but now i dont feel it.

I find my bras ever so comfortable, but I think that is due to wearing a bigger size than i need.

They are done up on the tightest clasp and its still loose enough for a few fingers.

I have always just done it that way so that I dont get the dreaded back fat look. So hoping going for a better size doesnt make that happen

I was recently fitted again, and I've gone down to a 34, but I wear a 16/18 top in high street styles, depending on the shop, as I have larger cup size, so it doesn't really matter what the band size is independently. Different bras fit differently, too. Get a professional fitting for your strapless, it will be better that way and you'll be sure to get a comfy and well-fitting bra. I splurged and went to Rigby and Peller, but it was worth it!

Aaa, reading this I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable!! If your band size is too loose, your boobs will sag- most of the support should be coming from the band!

Go to m&s and get measured.

im a 8 and my bra size is 28f

your ment to wear the back on the loosest fitting when new ,so you can tighten it as it gives

( i got a new bra last week). felt abit tight at first, but is perfect now its been washed a few times

I find M&S bras quite tight and usually have to go up a cup size too or am spilling out. I quite like the Gorgeous range from Debenhams, find them quite comfy. Bravissimo size you just by looking lol.

I have been put off bra fitters after the one and only time I was fitted they told me I was a 38b - I was a size 10-12 at the time, and at the time was wearing 34C's....

My boobs definitly are not supported in the current miss-mash of sizes I let them hang out in at the moment.

They have had it easy so far. It's time they worked for me

    8-10 and size 34. I think that's pretty standard for a size 10 so 36 can't be "too large" for a size 12!

    I'm a 34 and wear a size 16 top due to a cup size of F.

I'm not wearing a bra for the wedding as the dress provides enough support.

I would go and get professionally fitted if I were you.

14 in shirts, 12 in stretchier fabrics. I wear 30 back most of the time, occasional 32s, probably need a 28 in strapless, my 30 suffers from gravity on innermost hook!

12s always pull across boobs but are too big elsewhere - definitely need a fitted type shirt!

    Thanks for all the replies.

I would get proffesionaly fitted, but have been put off on a number of occaisions.

Might be something to do with the odd size my breasticles are.

If I get time I will do, but at the moment, I am heavily relying on my online capabilities in the evening due to work

What size do you normally wear? 36 what?

I can't stress enough the necessity to get properly fitted. Don't go to M&S - I've had terrible experiences there. Bravissimo are brilliant. Debenhams are fine. Or try an independent underwear shop.

If you don't want to go in to have a fitting, do one yourself at the store of your choice, and follow this guide.

I'm a size 10 all over and wear a 30F (measured in bravissimo, i had been wearing 36D). Because the cup sizes also decrease with the band size, they are not too ginormous!

Around my rib cage is actually 30 inches, so the whole measure and add so many inches to get you bra size isn't always true. It also depends where you wear your bra. The band should be quite low, the bottom of mine sits about 3 inches higher than my elbow (if my arms are by my side). If worn in the right place you won't get back fat. Thats only of they are too loose and so ride up higher than they should and push your fat out the top. So back fat is because you bra is too loose and/or in the wrong place, not normally because it's too tight.

To get an idea of proportion, I am 5' 6, 37inches round my nipples, 30 round rib cage. 24.5 inch waist and 37 inch hips. I got measured by the dress lady on Friday, I wouldn't normally know!

I am a size 16 and I am a 34 back. Don't get measured with a tape measure, it doesn't take into consideration how the bra stretches etc. Bravissimo and Rigby & Pellar are good at measuring you ?

It depends on the style of top, material, the shop you are buying from, I have a 30 back, but plenty up front, G. And my tops vary from a size 10 to 14, its really all just trail and error.

ETA - and also when you a buy a new bra you should always fasten it on the last hook, so you can tighten it as it stretches over time.

I am a 14 top and 36 back, I have been told I should go for 34 but to be honest I find 36 and in some brands 38 far more comfortable. When I was properly fitted a couple of years ago I came out as 36c but the lady made me feel so uncomfortable I dread the thought of having to have another one in the future!

My wedding bra is a 38c as the 36 was so tight. But now I am worried it might fall down as I am losing a bit of weight!

Hi im a size 10, 32E. I can never get the nicest bras in my size! Do you need a bra or is your dress corset fitted? then you dont have to wear a bra if you dont want to!

Also you need to get measured every couple of months, your breasts change very often and wearing the wrong size is not good for them, or your back/shoulders etc

I'm a size 8-10 on top and vary between 32-34 depending on the bra type. Some I'm 32E and others 34DD. I wouldn't recommend measuring yourself at home - it's never accurate. You shouldn't worry about going to get measured - it's their job and they see lots of different shapes and sizes of boobs every day! I found La Senza the best place to get measured but them going into administration has kind of scuppered that for me!

I am a size 10 and wear a 30. In my opinion the best place to get fitted is Bravissimo - its the only place I have ever been to where I am happy with what they suggest. Now I dont go anywhere else for bras! Your bra should fit well around the cup and like the others said you should be able to fit 2 fingers up the back when it is fastened on the loosest clasp. It may feel tight at first but bravissimo told me that if you fasten it round the back of a chair overnight, it will loosen it a bit so it wont be as rigid and tight feeling. Hope this helps!

I'm a size 10 and wear a 32...but shapes are so different from under bust to waist that I really suggest you go and get measured specifically for a bra.

When I've been measured the ladies have said that most people wear a back size that is too big. I used to wear a 34 but have been told i should wear a 30. Most of my bras are a 32. I'm an 8-10 on top. I would reccomend going to get fitted as I was really suprised. The bras that I wore always 'fitted' and felt fine, but when measured properly I found bras that really fitted and made me look so much better.

Hi, I used to be a bra fitter...never used tape measure, it's all about looking and the feel. I would suggest that if a 34 is tight, then you need to go up in the cup size. Theoretically, a 34C is the same as a 36B, so if you were in a 36B and tried a 34B, it would be too tight and uncomfortable. We used to get ladies who were in a 36B, and we could look at them straight away and say 32DD and be correct (it becomes a bit of a problem when you can look at woman and tell her boobage size when you're just out and about ?)

Wearing the right size bra is so important, it will change the look of your chest in sooo many ways! And it will stop them sagging!!!! Straples has to be a bit tighter, because it needs to support you! I am a size 6-8 and wear a 32, but really need a 30, but not many places do 30 backs in decent bras, so I wear a 32 and go down a cupsize. (Rule of thumb, as said...go up a back size, go down a cup size. Go down a back size, go up a cup size).

Can I ask what cup size you normally are and what cup size the strapless is in?
