Hi, I have been asked to write a personal reference for a friend but have no idea how to go about this. He was originally a work collegue, we no longer work together but have remained good friends, any help would be appreciated thanks

I had to write one for my childminder once.

I put the length of time I had known her, that she was honest and reliable and punctual.

    Ummm....

"In respect of your letter of XX/XX/XXXX requesting a reference for x

I have known x both professional and social capacities for x years.

Professionally I found him to be (insert superlative), (more hyperbole) & (get your tongue in), outside of the workplace he shows (gratutious bum licking), & (hero worship) at all times.

I would have no hesitation in recommending x for employment and believe he would be an asset to any company.

I hope the above meets your requirements, if you require any further information do not hesitate to contact me.

    Yours,

    etc.
