Personalised just about everything!

sgreen, 22 August, 2011 at 14:33 Posted on Planning 0 3

Having been on this site for a few weeks and also trying to put together my wedding, I'm noticing that you can buy just about everything personalised with "bride" or "groom" or with "Chief Bridesmaid" and "Best Man" etc. I'm now spotting even more obscure items with more obscure people and also items that can be personalised with "Mr or Mrs xxxx"

To be honest I thought it was fun to begin with and had my eye on some "bride" knickers and had already made a mental note of "best man" cufflinks, but now I'm begining to get so overwhelmed by it all I'm starting to find it all very tacky and all a very unneccesary expense.

These are all things you are only going to use once, and only for a short time, and it many cases they will only be seen by a few people.

I'm now thinking that rather than getting tacky bride knickers I can treat myself to a very nice and luxiourous lingerie set that I will wear in the future.

In one way I feel a bit bah, humbug about it all, but I'm now feeling that this is just awful commercialism, and I'd rather sepend the money I things we or our guests would see and appreciate more, such as better food, nicer centre pieces (which we could easily customise the same way) or even afterwards on a nice big canvas from the photographer.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, it is all too easy to get swept along in the commercialisation of weddings but MUCH better to spend money on some good classic lingerie for the wedding night than 'Bride' knickers!

But if you did want to do a joke pair you could buy some inexpensive knickers and stick on diamantes!

I agree, although I have made one concession. I have had knickers done saying "Mrs H*****" in diamantes as a surprise for OH. He wants me to take his name but doesn't think I will. I have said I don't want to talk about it (caused loads of issues in my first marriage and it's not a topic I like to discuss). He has said "no problem, as long as we're married that's what counts". Bless Smiley smileSmiley smile

So on the wedding day/night when he sees the knickers, it will be a surprise and I think he'll be really chuffed!

I find most personalised stuff really tacky, but one thing I do want is personalised pens. We are planning a favour box full of goodies for our guests, and it will include a pen and tag to write a message to hang on our tree of love, which we are having instead of a guestbook.

I might indulge in a "Future Mrs Raithby" T shirt for my hen do though!
