photo booth with photographer?

Brooksy, 20 January, 2015 at 13:57 Posted on Planning 0 12

I have been looking at booking a photo booth and I have come across a company that will make you a bespoke backdrop and then provide all the props etc but it's not your traditional photo booth, there is a real life photographer taking the pictures and printing them off. I'm not sure if I think it is brilliant or a bit odd?

Has anyone ever seen this done? and how does it work? Would it put you off taking daft pictures if it was a person taking the pictures rather than the booth?

The booths themselves look gorgeous and I like the idea of it being abit more open and having a really nice back drop, the price is about the same as hiring a booth so the only thing putting me off is that it is a person taking the pictures.

What do you ladies think?

I've actually got this too, I don't really know what to expect, but I'm sure after a few drinks people will be up for a laugh with the photographers!

I'm sure they wouldn't expect everyone to be totally serious, and even make people laugh! Ask for a look at previous "photo booth" pictures so you can get an idea of what they're like? I checked our TOG's out, and hers look like good fun!

Out TOG will be setting up a 'photobooth' just like this during the evening reception. I think it'll be a great laugh, expecially after a few drinks. I think it'll work better than a normal booth because the photographers will be able to encourage people to take part!

That's what I was hoping really. I think I am just going to go for it! I would use it if I saw it at a wedding, and the company that designs the booths is convinced that this is 'the next big thing'.

I do this! It's something I include in my packages. There are advantages to the different types of booth. You just need to figure out what the best type for you is.

I think some advantages this "on site studio" model has over the walk in booth are

I'm not restricted to working inside a booth. I can do group shots, eg of colleagues that come to the evening do.

It's faster than a booth - I can take an image and be on the next group while a booth would still be printing the first shot.

I can work outside. In summer I used the sunset as a backdrop for my photos at one wedding.

The quality of the images is usually better than with a walk in booth. I use professional flash like I would in a studio. You'd have to check this as the equipment used varies a lot.

A disadvantage may be that you're reliant on the personality of the photographer. If you get someone nice and smiley it's OK but if they are a bit deadpan it's going to affect your photos.

We were considering having this type of booth, we have been to weddings where they have the actual booth and whilst they are fun they can be restrictive if there are more then 4 of you. I love the idea that if people choose not to use props you will just get some beautiful photos x

I see this more than i see the proper booths these days. Much more cost effective for much better photos imo. Go with it!

I had this at my wedding and I actually think it's better than trying to cram a group of you in to a traditional photo booth... You can also use more props etc.

Thank you all of the advice, I am going to book it! I'd never heard of it before, but obviously it was just me because it seems quite popular!

Book it girl! I do this at my weddings, and its a great way to rally up the troops. I give people ideas...mainly swimming in the booth...and its great banter back and forth. I think you definitely see it in the photos how much fun everyone are having!! You'll have a blast x

I do a pop-up studio too which works really well. I find that people really go for it and are almost oblivious of the photographer!

It's quicker as there's no fuss with prints. Nice to have instant prints but I've found people aren't always worried as they don't want to wait or carry them about.

It's much more spontaneous but the big plus for me is that when there's a photographer it directs people's eyes to the camera. This means no 'dead eye' that you often get with a booth but great expressions instead.

I've been to several wedding where this has been the set up and it has worked really well. You also get much better pictures.
