Photo sharing

HellsBells42, 13 October, 2013 at 18:31 Posted on Planning 0 10

I went to a wedding recently where everyone who took photos could upload them to flickr so the couple had access to loads of free photos of their wedding. I thought this was a brilliant idea as they didn't care too much about, and couldn't afford 'professional' photos. However, one thing I didn't like was that all of these photos then automatically had copyright and so as a 'guest' I was unable to download/print any of the photos. Now this was fine for this particular couple, but for my wedding I would like guests to have access to download as well as upload photos. I had a look at photobucket, but I couldn't see anywhere on there for 'guest access' so I would have to give out the login details which would allow people access to private info and have account setting access- which to be honest seems a recipe for disaster.

Has anyone done anything similar for their wedding, or are more technologically minded than me and have any websites they can suggest?

I have no idea about any websites for this sort of thing, could you maybe set up a new facebook purely for those photos and only have your guests as friends and if you wanted set it to private, so only you and your guests have access and able to download the pics etc?
Might be a rubbish idea haha sorry don't know any other websites Smiley laugh

Create a dropbox account and folder, that would be best. Our website (gettingmarried.co.uk) has the feature to upload photos after I think.

My friend had an app called 'wedding party' where guests could upload their pics from their phones. Then the pics can be saved or emailed etc with no copyright.

Maybe consider something like this for all the smartphone pics?

A friend of ours created a photobucket account specially for the wedding. No one abused the login details.

Pass is incredible- it's how we deliver wedding photos (you can see an example of how a pass gallery works in my sig under the "full wedding" link.

However, it's only live and free for 30 days. If you want it up any longer than that you'll need to pay to upgrade it. Guests will only be allowed to download photos individually too unless you upgrade- in which case they can batch download. It's around $30 for a year I think off of the top of my head.

There are other free options as already suggested though, like dropbox. Or you used to be able to change the permissions on Flickr so that people could download and access the original files I believe. That may have changed since they re-vamped it though, but worth looking into if guests are already familiar with that way of doing things.

Thanks guys. I hadn't heard of dropbox before, nor had I thought of wedding websites which might have this feature. I'll do a bit more research now I know where to look!

There is a wedding app called wedpics, you can ask your guests to download it and then ask them to put them on there. I'm not a big fan of my whole wedding being posted on facebook so will be asking my guests to put them here for me instead. You can print cards to go with your invites or a poster (which is what I am doing and putting it on my card table so people can see it when they arrive) x
