We usually arrive an hour and a half before the ceremony to allow plenty of time for the details, bride getting into dress, final make-up & hair touches, and then a few formals before the ceremony. If you're having a civil ceremony this'll take about half an hour. You'd then have 2 hours after your ceremony for photos as well which should allow for your group photos and the shots of the two of you together.

This will be my second wedding so I know from the first time what I liked and didn't like. The one at my first wedding didn't come out to photograph any preparations, and as the post above says, just those last parts of the preparations are good to have pictures of and I'm absolutely having that this time. They can also photograph the groom etc pre-wedding if getting ready at the same venue. I'm getting married at 2pm so I need to check with the photographer but I'm guessing he'll want to be with me for 12.30-1.00pm. Ceremony 30 mins, then pics afterwards another hour or so. If they leave before the breakfast they usually do a posed cake cutting photo then leave it at that. They can obviously photograph the laid out room as well at that point with details of the table decor, flowers etc etc. You should easily get all that in the 4 hours.

Good advice. How far away are you from where the ceremony is? Are speeches before the meal and did you want that captured?
