Photographer Help Please!

FutureMrsLawrence, 3 July, 2011 at 16:43 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi, I really need some advice. I have been looking for the past few weeks at photographers and I cant get over some of the prices. Neither myself or my OH are particularly 'in to' photography but we would like some nice pictures of our day but really dont have the budget to spend a fortune on it.

I have come across a company called Atmosferik and I am looking at their Halo range which is disc only rather than the albums, has any one else opted for this sort of thing? I could really do with some pointers as to whether that would be a good option for us as we dont have the biggest budget for it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

We've gone for a CD only package. Cost us £655 in total, and we have the right to print all photographs (up to 1500) which are on the disc.

I think here you must check that the images on the disc don't have 'copy' written across them, and that you have the right to print all of the images and you don't have to do it through your photographer, as this could then cost you a lot after the wedding.

This way means you won't get an album (those photo storybook things) though so if you did want one of these you might want to reconsider. Although, most good photographers will offer you the option of buying an album after the wedding. Alternatively you could put your own album together later on.

This option suited us because I don't like the story books and I would quite like to put together my own thing afterwards.

What area are you in and im sure someone may be able to suggest alternatives and solutions based upon there experience.

The Cd only option works if you have a set plan on what you plan to do with them, Framed pics albums etc... but it is a great way to keep your costs down.

There are areas you need to be careful with:

How many images will you get roughly?

    What quality are they?

    Are they edited?

We are in Buckinhamshire and getting married 21st July 2012.

They dont say on the website, or atleast not that I can see, whether or not they are edited so I am assuming not or anything about quality and they dont specify a number the just say 'literally hundreds of images' and they dont limit the amount they give you.

    Thank you both very much.

If this is who I'm thinking of then the company is one where you don't get to meet the photographer or that they have several photographers under their wing of which they decide to send.

If you have to ask about them on here...then you are unsure and are asking the understandable question of 'why are they so cheap when everyone else is almost double'.

Only they would know that and you get what you pay for, basically.

Image supply only, at around £500 is still too cheap considering the amount of editing involved after the day. After taxes and insurance it's like £250 for a weeks work.

A pro camera without lenses costs 5k and is usually replaced after a few years (and we need two in case one fails on us).

As the figures don't add up (and they really don't) you may find the differences are realized after you receive your images.

Even best case scenario...taking off fuel, tax, insurances i consider it too cheap.

Hi! my cousin had Atmosferic and the photos were lovely and colourful but not that fabulous, the editing didnt look up to much (if any had been done at all) and my cousin is quite a large girl and the photos just werent that flattering - a lot had been taken pointing upwards to her double chin which she hated.

I had Nicola Grimshaw-Mitchell (NGM Photographic), she was a lot more expensive than Atmosferic but my photos were excellent - really beautiful and captured every little emotional thing of the day, she's also very professional and nice and fabby at Photoshop editing!

Do also check the size and resolution quality of the files being provided. We have had some on this forum who only had digital files good enough for 6x4 and no larger....
