photographer negotiating skills!

BlushingBride2012, 17 January, 2011 at 22:39 Posted on Planning 0 8

Ive found the photographer i want but theres a couple of things. She is really expensive. Ive already name dropped my sis to get her from 750 to 550. and ive said instead of an album ill just have the disc and ill print my own pics etc.

Is there anything else i can do to get her down??

Its already over my budget but i really want her and we are meeting her on Sat to discuss things!!

Any last minute tips would be great!! xx

I actually think 550 is a great deal but maybe you could say you had a budget of 400 for photographs so if she could meet you in the middle you'll book now.

I can't really say anything. I stupidly didn't haggle at all with any of the three quotes we got but still happy with the one we picked even if it was slightly over budget.

Damn illness making me forget and say yes/ok.

That's cheap...take it and run away laughing, as long as they're good.

You get what you pay for with most things. At least the dramatic price drop has been defined with the absence of an album.

Twisting her arm further may result in her cutting corners elsewhere leading to a detrimental efect on your final images.

The only time I move on my prices is if there is a good reason to, like a wedding 5 miles from me as opposed to a drive to another county. That's because I feel as though I'm priced absolutely spot on and fairly. Due to increases in competition most photographers don't have the luxury to charge what they want and therefore have little room to move.

It sort of depends how far in advance you are booking. You are asking the photographer to reduce any potential profit. Many are reluctant to do this as they can often pick up anothers wedding and maintain their margins. If though your wedding is soon-ish, some may offer discounts to fill empty dates.

There is a lot of unseen work in wedding photography. All people see is the tog on the day without realising that they will probably spend 2-3 days in post production with your images. So realistically £550 is good if you like her work. You can get cheaper, although then may well run the risk of not getting what you want. ......not forgetting that the photography will last a lifetime as will your OH and rings.....apart from those, all other monies spent on the day are gone after it.

I look on the photography as a good investment....although I am sort of biassed.......?

I'm going through this now, and that is a better than any of the quotes i have had. Same here, i am trying to get a price for the disc only and decide on the albums later. The cheaper quotes have been £700-£800, so defintely take up this offer i think. What area are you in Blushing Bride? I am in Shropshire x

Peace of mind is worth a fortune during wedding planning. Wise decision, specifically as you so like her work.
