photographer prices??? help #clueless

jen C to be!, 21 February, 2013 at 09:15 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hello lovely ladies

I am looking for a photographer for my december wedding. this is what im after

would like photographer at hotel as guests arrive at 1.30

then all aboard a double decker to church

getting married at 2.30

back to hotel for afternoon tea

then into evening, first dance

THATS IT! very simple, around 6/7 hours coverage, happy to compile our own album, so pics on a disc/stick is fine. perhaps one nice photo printed of us and our three children, but thats it.

how much do you think? had a couple of quotes but seems a lot!

Where abouts in the country are you? that will have a bearing. We're paying £625 but his prices have gone up since we booked.

Couple of things you missed, number of guests, the actual locations (so we can work out the distance - I had a wedding once where the reception venue was an hour from the church) and of absolute number one importance the date and day.

    So pretty close together then.

You can get prices from £500-£2000.

£900-1100 being ballpark, for a Saturday over the Christmas week with £100 off for Fridays and Sundays and £200 for all other days. (because you never specified when) - These prices are just based on what I see locally this way.

A togs quietest times are November, January and February. As far as the other months go all bets are now off. I've just one booking in June this year but 7 in April with three in December (5 last year). Weddings aren't really seasonal any more (which is good).

So June, is looking to be my quietest month this year.

Winter weddings are harder to shoot than summer ones. Hence the price not falling through the floor, you have to rely on high iso and flash more which is whole different discipline.

This is just advisory though, you can probably easily find someone for £750.

Hey Emma don't regret your tog, I'm only low because I'm a) relatively new and still building experience and b) I do it part time so it's not my sole source of income. I do use 2 professional bodies and professional lenses, but I'm not quite as talented as those with more experience who do it full time, so you do pay more to get more.

I can personally vouch for Marianne. We all have to start somewhere and often the new blood has more enthusiasm, creativity and potential than someone doing it for 15 years.

Depends on the quality your after, but a rough average would be around 1K.

If it was my wedding, I'd look to book the very best I could afford and prioritise the budget over less important stuff.

This means I would gladly spend 'allot' providing the budget could actually stretch.

    Hi,

I am getting married in Cheshire area and we have paid around £1,700 for our TOG for the full day up to the first dance and then photos on a disc afterwards, we also get a pre wedding shoot. I have to say we met a few TOG's and there is a massive difference in quality between them, we went for the person who we got on with best and seemed to have a connection with, a few of the ones we met were cheaper but seemed to hate wedding photography and had no enthusiasm for it.

You have to remember the photos are the memories from the day so a good TOG was really important to us x

This is what I like about marianne, she is totaly honest about why her prices are lower than others. And has my respect for her attitude

So many times I have seen peoples websites that pretend to be a full time pro when they are not, this leads to the issue where brides say why does this pro charge trwice as much as that pro --

Marianne---don't tell people that you are not as talented, that is not for you to say, but it is for customers to judge.

Thanks for your support Bill, all you pros are too nice to me! The sad truth is, I have to be honest because I'm too chicken to lie.

I am possibly the only person in the world who went to a festival, as a group we tried to smuggle in some alcohol in glass bottles (you're only allowed plastic), I thought they were just going to pat us down but when the security guard asked me "do you have any glass bottles in your bag" I panicked and owned up because I couldn't face lying. When I was like "omg omg yes I'm so sorry!" He just looked at me and shook his head in pity like "all you had to do was say no and I would NOT have cared." ?

Your photos are really the only lasting thing from your day, and worth spendign a bit of money on, if you can.

I was pretty shocked when I first started looking into photographer's costs, but I didn't appreciate the many many hours work involved (days)

My wedding photographs make me cry (in a good way) and do not regret a penny we spent, despite (after venue, food and drinks) it being our most expensive service.

I think it depends on where you are based and the level of coverage/extra's you want. My prices start at £995 and include extras ..

The general rule is that you get what you pay for of course. But if looking for a bargain I'd advise first looking very carefully at the images, be critical as they should be their best efforts. If correctly exposed you should see good detail in the bride's white dress, it shouldn't look like a glowing blob! Look how the faces are lit especially the eyes which should be sparkling and not pools of darkness. Images should be balanced and well composed though that's a bit difficult to describe. Good togs know how to do these things.

If you like the images I think it's then most important that you like them as a person, they will be interfacing with you all day so you want to feel comfortable with them.
