Photographer Question?????

flowerpot, 26 August, 2008 at 08:06 Posted on Planning 0 4

We have chosen our photographer and we are really pleased to have him.

For our package we have him all day and night Smiley smile.....and we get to keep all the pics too and we also get to choose an album and 40 prints to go in the album.

But because he uses film and not digital...he does'nt put them on cd.

How do we go about putting all the pics on cd as we have relatives coming from all over and i dont fancy sending the wedding album all over the world just so they can see pics.(i would if i had too but my concerns would be that it gets lost or damaged).

I know you can scan pics at asda....but ive done that before and it took forever and a day,and our photographer has said we could have nearly 300 pictures (we like lots of pictures),and im not standing in asda all day strapped to the scanning machine.

So to all you photographers on hitched please can you help??

Ps sorry to have waffled but its early in the morning and i feel a bit pmt'ish Smiley sad

The best thing would be to ask your photographer to get them scanned for you as, if he is using a professional lab, most if these labs do a scanning service as well as printing.

If not you could try these guys http://www.multiprintimaging.co.uk/ They are a professional printing lab (so good quality) but are available for use by the general public too.

The only thing I would say is firstly to make sure you have permission from the photographer to scan the photos, otherwise you will be in breach of copyright. You will need a formal letter from him giving permission otherwise you will not be able to get anywhere to scan them (even the supermarkets shouldn't scan without this proof), the above mentioned lab will definitely need this.

Secondly, think about the quality you want the images scanned at. High quality print scanning is very expensive but will give you scan quality that you can print from in the future. However, if you only ever want the scanned images to use on a computer, email, create a DVD slideshow, then you should be fine with lower quality scanning.

Ask your photographer to send the negatives to the lab and have them scanned professionally. Easy

It will depend on the resoulution of the scan as to the extra cost. Low res is suitable for web use and online sharing although not really much use for printing. Higher resolution scans costs considerably more and may be useful for printing, although this may be outside the photographers desire as they will potentially lose reprint orders from the guests...
